Denis Law has died aged 84 - RIP Great player for Manchester United and Manchester City. The team with Best, Law, Charlton etc was one of my favourite teams.
RIP Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy and their dog. My favourite actor. The French Connection is utter perfection.
RIP John 'Paddy' Hemingway The last of the Few. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg1z42pkj8o We owe them everything. The Hawker Hurricane (which Paddy flew) was the ultimate 'Bomber killer', downing Luftwaffe Heinkels, Dorniers and Junkers Ju88's. The Supermarine Spitfire, bred from 1930's racing planes, quirky and difficult to land, but it was supreme in fighter-to-fighter combat. And the men who flew these machines; British, Polish, Czech pilots and men from other Nations too, the bravest of the brave. We will never see their like again. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" Winston Churchill.
RIP Big George . One of my very favourite sportsmen of all time if you like to read autobiography’s read his. Favourite one I’ve read
Fought when boxing was to be respected and when it was honest. Always came across as a nice man. Sleep well.
A genius, pure and simple. I had the good fortune to meet him before his show at the Festival Hall some years ago. Very shy and gentle. He signed my programme, which is much treasured. His music will live on forever.
