We need to just reject offers now, need to keep our best players, we've made a big sale and shouldn't need anymore
This might be controversial but if we got offered more than £35m for Rigg, with a sell on, I'd probably accept. I can already hear the people coming to tell me we can't sell all our players. I'm not saying its an easy decision. But with that money we could sign two players who are both more ready to contribute to keeping us in the league now.
£35 million for CR, call it £30 million for JB and £10 million for TW. Put into context. Our last published accounts, club turnover was £38 million.
I'd agree for most. Stupid money for Rigg when he's less likely to start games next season would be tempting though.
Need him to sign a new contract later this month otherwise we might be in a tricky spot with him next summer.
It won't be £38m next year though. I would be pretty disappointed if Rigg was sold mind. He's the best player to come through our ranks in a very long time. He'll leave in the future no doubt, but as far as you can be certain about any player, he is going to the top. Keep, and sign up if at all possible.
two years younger than Jobe 40 less league appearances get 20 minimum in the prem amounting to solid minutes, so the same development this year as he has last year and he’s minimum a 40m teenager
I don't think it'll be that hard, we are such an attractive clubs for players these days - especially young footballers We look after footballers now, we develop them and give them a platform to show their skills - then we don't put up barriers if they want to go Yes we are likely to be in a relegation battle but PL teams have a great pull and especially one that develops talent like we do Gone are the days where we have to offer higher wages to attract a player, now our club speaks for itself. Some will jump at that chance and those are the ones I want, the ones that want to come play for us and develop at our club Pi$$ take party is well and truly over
An I crazy or would this be great for us https://x.com/fabrizioromano/status/1932834554118619527?s=46 could effect both negatively
the premier league is different to when we were in it last time you’re right, back then players had to be financially incentivised to move north, now the league is that attractive players will basically join anyone for arguments sake and that’s why all the way down to 17th in the league, teams have sides full of internationals etc
Rigg will probably sign a new bumper contract in a week or two and that should head off transfers for this year. Next year is the worry but we'll see where we are then. Just hopefully no release clauses.
Much in the same way Clarke was willing to sign for Ipswich, there are literally thousands of players out there that would give anything to join Sunderland and have the chance to prove themselves to a global audience, even if just for a season. We have to sign the right ones, obviously. And protect ourselves so that anybody coming in can either be easily sold or contribute should we get relegated.
