It was 41 images. 7 Cat A. I was surprised that people were surprised he didn't go to jail. A lot of people don't for those sorts of crimes sadly. Still disgraceful of course. Sentencing guidelines need urgently updating imo.
Must admit I thought it would be an automatic jail sentence for having images like that. But like you say sentencing guidelines need updating.
It clearly should be but isn't for some bizarre reason. See stories in our local rag of wrong'uns getting suspended quite often.
Me and my other half spoke about this at the time - we'd just never have left our kids like that - a family holiday is a 'family holiday' - including going out for the evening. You can always have booze back in your apartment etc.
Exactly mate. I was thinking if they really were that desperate to go out, without the kids, then as they were with a group that night, they should have done it in shifts. Was speaking to my lad last night and my grandkid, never ever been left on his own, you just don't do it and that was my sons words.
The law, its application / interpretation and related sentencing guidelines are the real problem ... and the cynic in me sometimes wonders how some of these laws ever got to be passed in the form they have been in the first place... were certain individuals / sections of society being protected / shielded etc?? or was it simply incredibly poor drafting that has led to anomalies / inconsistencies?? I understand some of the thought processes I guess - I.e. is somebody who never goes further than merely looking at images just as dangerous as offenders that are actually caught I.e groomers or a particular teacher who absconds with a 15 year old pupil etc ... My own view is that people who seek, save / view such images are also fuelling the demand for them and therefore guilty / culpable in terms of both present and future danger for kids, in particular, vulnerable kids - and that associated sentencing therefore needs to reflect the seriousness of the 'risk' to those kids etc ... The law therefore needs a complete re-wtite with much tougher sentencing and possibly options for the likes of Huw Edwards to avoid custodial sentencing by opting for medical treatment e.g. chemical or even physical castration ... bit draconian, I accept, but if it helps safeguard our kids...
Wild article in The Metro about an ongoing case where a bloke has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a teenager by nearly cutting his head off with a sword and went on to seriously injure three people having previously got high and skinned/deboned his own cat. Tough gig for the defence there.
The search for the McCann girl called off. They found animal bones which is probably what their scan data showed up. No police presence to remain on site, which indicates in itself nothing there. This also means unless the German police can pin something else on him, their prime suspect will be due for release from prison next year. He was due for release this year, but police found an excuse (unpaid fines I think) to keep him in a tad longer.
Just seen the news, someone has shot a school up in Austria, 10 dead including the shooter. Edit update: 10 dead & 28 injured. Lots of people retweeting a fake video and an incorrect name of the shooter on Twitter.
Nothing will ever beat this eFit: https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2010/sep/21/police-efit-lettuce-head-burglary-suspect please log in to view this image actually... looks like it could be the same guy minus the lettuce toupee.
Yeah, I think it was the local rag I saw that in yesterday. Sometimes you just get lost for words with some of these people. Just a guess but will probably end up in Broadmoor eventually.
