Three players have gone through this route so far; Lis - whose friendly appearance last season made Bazunu look like the 2nd coming of Pat Jennings Juan & Matsuki, both of which will be back at saints for the next pre-season. If one or both of those are able to contribute next season to Saints then it won’t feel like such a one way street, but it’s going to take longer to find the level of footballer required for even top half championship
It's harder to get work permits for players coming to England now from South America etc so sending them to a parent club in a stronger league helps.
Ah okay. Yes, will have no impact because they’ll need to spend big on CBs (particularly if Zabarnyi goes too). I don’t think there has been any suggestion they’re interested in Dibling (though if Semenyo goes, I guess they could be). But it’s a real stretch.
Just feel that Bournemouth will suffer the same issues we faced when Poch left. They will gave money to burn this window.
Just the news about that Chilean right winger someone posted the other day, who allegedly we are buying then loaning out straight away as we are obviously the feeder club to all the other teams in SR network. Not sure if it’s from a better source
Because he almost certainly can’t get a work permit to play directly for us which I expect is true to several of the others sent there
Yeah that’s what I thought. I’m sure people will say why bother signing him then and use the money elsewhere. Obviously early in the window but it’s likely we won’t need to do much to the squad to be competitive in the Championship, so I’m fine with picking up players we think could come good/turn a profit and loan them out.
Also Goztepe performing well as a team should help these players improve / appreciate in value I don’t really think we are intentionally taking money from the budget for first team squad players to go towards signings like this. Sure in strict monetary terms that would appear to be what is happening but we’ve seen in the past that often it’s better to not just splurge on a player that doesn’t quite fit if there isn’t one of the profile we want. So we likely have budgets and targets in mind across the squad. Or you’d hope we would. And once all those sums are done we have funds for signings like this For example say we have a max of £10m set aside for a specific position. The extra fee used to sign this player doesn’t and indeed shouldn’t change that. It’s not as simple as 15m will get a better player. That’s not always true but also you start to further increase the outgoings with higher wages for higher fee players etc It just gets a bit tiresome to see all the negativity around players loaned to Turkey from people who don’t really know the workings. It’s rampant on the other site. Sure we were dreadful last year - but do we really think the handful of players signed for a relatively low amount of money was the main reason. Would the funds used on the players loaned to Gotzepe have made the different between going down and survival. Of course not. Not even a bit. And at the moment they didn’t make the difference between promotion and non promotion the last time we were down.
Wonder how many others in that age group will move on, last year seemed a good group, think 3 or 4 ended up leaving
