Looks like John Henry got his wallet back. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...rian-wirtz-transfer-latest-liverpool-31830564
It isn’t stopping us buying elsewhere though? Signed a RB and signing a LB. Said the other day, any future signings will depend on outgoings not necessarily because of finances, but because of the 17 foreign slot rules. We now have 18 slots filled if w get kerkez and Wirtz so if we get a CF/CB it’s always going to mean players like Nunez/jota/diaz/tsimikas are sold because we have to free up space (unless we get home grown players but not seen any real links to either).
https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/caoimhin-kelleher-sends-farewell-message-liverpool-supporters Nice message and a good video showing what a top keeper he is.
Considering our spending last season it's nothing crazy when you add players that have left and will leave. We have to get a striker though.
and a CB. if we come out of this window with a new LB, RB, Wirtz, #9 and a CB I’ll be amazed (but happy). It is a major rebuild though so I wouldn’t expect miracles from them initially either.
The 2 full backs, Wirtz and a striker is a lot though. To me we need to move on Nunez and Robertson and even though I think it's a mistake we'll also sell Elliott. Kelleher already gone and that should be it.
I don't think we need one. Quansah and the broken Gomez will have to cover. Edit. Well we might need one but I don't think we'll buy one because of the other transfers.
it will restrict our spending as we have a finite amount and i think we are overpaying for him though it would be worth it if he lives up to the expectations of quite a few on this board. Last time i saw this much hype on here for a player coming from Germany was Naby Keita and look how that turned out .
So did I. Perhaps I'm not making myself clear though. I'm not questioning whether the club can afford it, or whether it's worthwhile in football terms acquiring a major talent (if that's what he truly is), I'm just bemoaning the persistent spiralling of fees and wages in the game. Not only is it immoral imo, but surely the whole thing has to come crashing down at some stage? But then we've been saying this for years and still it shows no sign of levelling out. I can't stop loving the game on the pitch, but the rest of it does my head in.
This is another concern for me, I don't like wholesale changes. Slot has had a remarkable first season with someone else's team, the real test will come when the squad is closer to what he wants.
Florian Wirtz first Liverpool's training leaked. https://www.empireofthekop.com/2025/06/09/florian-wirtz-liverpool-debut/
Thing is I think it’s more squad depth. First 11 we could easily only see Wirtz and a new CF as first choice or even Wirtz at lw and szobo in midfield with Diaz up top Ali Bradley Konate vvd robbo mac grav salah szobo wirtz Diaz now one could assume Frimpong will be first choice and could argue kerkez although I’d expect heavy rotation there any Cb won’t be first choice so there you’re just buying for depth so how important is that? And again, a CM, they aren’t replacing any of current ones so again it’s squad depth. I think that 1, makes it harder to buy, but also means it’s not massive wholesale changes to the first team
Man City have signed four players already; Reijnders, Ait-Nouri, Bettinelli and Cherki. Wasn't Pep moaning last week about the squad being too big and threatening to quit if the squad wasn't trimmed down?
I don't agree with buying backup options; but first choice options and let the players fight it out, the squad will sort itself
