Good Morning. It's Tuesday 10th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Fans question Leeds ambitions following Sargent talks Sky Sports have reported that Leeds United are in talks with Norwich City forward Josh Sargent. The club has reportedly engaged in conversations with the Norwich hierarchy to gauge the feasibility of a move. Sargent, 25, has expressed interest in joining Daniel Farke's squad as they prepare for their Premier League return. He's keen to be a part of the project at Elland Road. However, the potential acquisition has sparked debate among fans, particularly given the other attacking talents Leeds have been linked with. The potential transfer fee for Sargent is estimated to be around €20 million (£17 million), a figure that should be within reach for the 49ers. While financially viable, the move raises questions about Leeds' ambition in the transfer market. Some fans might be underwhelmed, particularly after being linked with higher-profile players from across Europe. Another cause for concern is Sargent's injury record. Staying fit has been a challenge for him throughout his career. Last season, he managed a reasonable return of 15 goals and 5 assists in around 2500 minutes of playing time. However, this output pales in comparison to Joel Piroe, a player who is already at Leeds and who some fans feel isn’t good enough to lead the line. please log in to view this image Leeds table £22m bid for Diarra Leeds have lodged a €26million (£21.9m) bid for Senegalese international midfielder Habib Diarra according to the French media outlet L'Equipe. He played a pivotal role for Strasbourg last season, captaining Liam Rosenior’s side, and guiding them to a 7th place finish and UEFA Conference football next season. His profile aligns with Farke’s desire for a flexible player with a big engine who can contribute both defensively and offensively in the heart of midfield. Graham Smyth believes there is still work to do to get the deal wrapped up, yet there seems to be little doubt that the £22m bid is genuine. Strasbourg will be keen to get as much as they can, and are in no hurry to accept the first offer on the table. At 21, Diarra has a big future ahead of him, but it remains to be seen whether he's ready yet for the Premier League. please log in to view this image Is Bijol on Leeds shopping list Leeds are reportedly eyeing Slovenian international centre-back Jaka Bijol as a key target to strengthen their defensive line, according to reports in the Yorkshire Evening Post and Leeds-Live. The 26yo who has two years left on his contract is believed to be available for around €20million (£16.9m), and could add valuable bite and experience to their back line. He has already amassed 62 caps for his country and boasts over 200 appearances in top-flight leagues across Slovenia, Russia, and Italy. He was a mainstay in Udinese's defense last season, starting 34 Serie A matches. Leeds are reportedly very keen to bring him to the Premier League as they believe he possesses the qualities to thrive in the English game. Standing 6' 2 and 85 kg, Bijol is an aggressive, domineering figure who can make life difficult for the best strikers in the World. He is regarded one of Serie A and European football's most aerially dominant central defenders, and also carries a set piece threat, something sadly missing from the Leeds arsenal in recent times. please log in to view this image
Morning all. Plans to redevelop Elland Road have been put on hold. The West stand will be required next season on match day to house the squad
Morning all I think Bijol looks a beast of a player, I am really hoping we sign him, he can tackle, he is good in the air and he isn't slow either. Diarra looks handy too, I would be excited if we managed to bring in both Sargent I am praying is lazy journalism, he isn't any better than Piroe, just a pointless signing and a wage we don't need
Morning all Josh Sargent is underwhelming however remember our level. We've just been promoted. He was in the Championship team of the season. I would say at this point in time he is a better option than having Bamford in the squad. On the Bijol. I don't see where he fits in. We've got Strujk and Rodon. I'm guessing if the rumours are true then I expect Strujk is leaving.
Getting itchy feet now like. I keep saying to myself stay away from all the transfer gossip but every day i say oh I will have a look ha.
Sargent is versatile too, and can play CAM, but with his injuries and the fact that he is unproven £17m is stupid money.
Bijol has stated he wants to go to AC Milan. He's also slower than Struijk. He's a Cresswell clone. Diarra would be decent but it's not an essential signing imo. Sargant would be an upgrade on Piroe if fit. Not sure he is Premier League class though. A gamble.
Morning all Diarra good addition Bijol will choose Chumps Lge at Milan Sargent is nowhere near good enough Another CB is needed, at least two mids, another wide player and a striker ... surprised no goalkeeper rumours have cropped up Piroe is class and will do well in Prem ... he is calm and composed, finds that bit of space and can finish ... he is also good at linking play so I can see him in 10 role if a hot shot striker gets signed ... Sargent is way off Piroe's level Leeds are going to find the transfer window a bit of a challenge due to financial constraints, so we may just have to make do with Sargent, Hamer, Targett etc Interesting to see Burnley have "strengthened" by signing Anthony from Bmouth for £8m
He's no upgrade in the fitness department .... unless we get more beds in, the house full sign is already in constant use
Sargent's a decent player and does the hard yards, runs the channels that Piroe can't. PL level? Dunno, injury prone... definite concern. If he was competion/variety up top im ok with it... if he's consider the main man, i'd be concerned. Might sell a few more shirts in yankeedoodle land though.
Anthony to Burnley was part of the loan deal from last season Billy. Burnley have also signed Fleming and Humphreys, who were both on loan last season, so it looks like those loan deals had purchase clauses upon promotion. So they have spent just over £27 million signing players in their squad last season.
Burnley are no better than last season but £27m down We’re effectively worse off as Harrison is not as good as Solomon and Firpo looks like he’s off. I’d prefer to be in our position though at this stage of the window
Well the mini transfer window shuts at 7pm tonight so at least we know nothing will be done until it reopens on the 16th (and not before 1st July if reports are accurate). Hopefully contracts get signed to be announced in July.
