Premier League’s first black referee passes away aged 65 after rare condition left him paralysed. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/35317230/uriah-rennie-dead-premier-league-first-black-referee/
Sad news that. I remember seeing an interview with him a while back, and he came across as a genuinely nice bloke. R.I.P. Uriah.
RIP fella. 65 is no age at all, my memory of him was that he was a pretty decent ref back in the day.
RIP lad…god bless. I know he had some health issues that incapacitated him but he seemed to have the fight in him to do his best to live with it but didn’t see this on the radar. Tell god if he doesn’t keep us up next season he’s getting a straight red.
RIP sir. Definitely one of the refs that you didn't go 'Oh God' when you saw he was doing our match. Just went along with the game and did a solid job. Didn't realise what a pioneer he was at the time. Some nice quotes in here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c0mr7xlmkxyo ...Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Hackett said: "He had stature and presence on the field of play and he was quite a gentleman off it. He was quiet but efficient in what he did. He was superbly fit. He had a black belt in one of the martial arts and I often watched him sprint, make a decision, players looking around him trying to have a go at the referee and he'd tap them on the shoulder and say 'look I'm here, I've seen it' and he would get a smile. He was a terrific communicator but quietly spoken, hardly ever lost his cool in any situation and understood the game really well."
