    He's a really solid county-level no.4 at t20 level.

He's not going to make it to international level, and he might never make it in red ball cricket. But for us, in t20, he's just what we need at no.4.

Bad PP, followed by a bad final two overs. Just one boundary off those last two overs was very poor.

We're probably about 25 runs light, but we are bowling very well this season - so maybe we might defend this...

You've always been control of this chase. 177 isn't going to win many matches at Canterbury.

It's his bat and ball, and his mum says we can only use them if we let him play

In the space of less than two weeks, three of the top six highest ever t20 totals at the Bowl have been scored.

(And I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes four of the top seven come this Friday.)

Tilak Varma signs a short-term deal with Hampshire | ESPNcricinfo

He's not someone who I'm aware of, but his record seems decent. And ultimately it's good to see that we've recruited a replacement for Brevis for the next four CC games.

It also suggests that whoever we sign to replace Brevis and Pretorius for the back-end of the Blast will both be white-ball specialists (because otherwise we could just have played one of them in the four CC matches).

If Varma is a success, I suppose he might also stay for the one-day cup.

Good to hear we're in advanced talks with their replacements as well. As for Varma, he seems highly rated in India so good to see us use our new connection there.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get McDermott back as cover for Pretorius. Or maybe Phillipe, who Vince will know from Sydney. But no-one obvious is coming to mind with regards to possible replacements for Brevis.

As well as the SA-Zimbabwe series, there's also WI-Aus and SL-Bangladesh. So anyone involved in those squads is out of contention. But what really limits our options is the clash with the MLC - a large number of overseas batters are already signed up to that. Pretty much every NZ batter, for example, is signed up to the MLC except for those already in the Blast.

Indian batters are absolutely off the table, because the BCCI won't let any Indian play in any overseas t20 league. And Pakistan batters will be difficult to attract due to the PCB limiting them to two overseas t20 leagues per year. Maybe there's some up-and-coming batter from Australia or SA.

But yeah, whoever they are, it's good that we're in advanced talks.

Perhaps we should take a punt on Prithvi Shaw who had a good time at Northants in the one-day cup in past seasons. His fitness and apparent indiscipline have been stumbling blocks in his career but he's clearly someone who can turn it on and suddenly play a magical innings, smashing it to all parts seemingly at will.

Ineligible for T20 though as BCCI bans Indian players from overseas T20 comps.

That's a brilliant 50 from Bavuma, given that he's injured.

Typical it has been dry here all day but now the showers are coming in for the night.

Hampshire currently 40/1 during this rain delay.

Yep. Dry, hot, great cricket weather.

But once I saw this evening's forecast, I put to bed any thoughts about heading down there.
