So today the german game is on at 2pm. After this it'll be all go for wirtz. Kerkez has seemingly left the Hungary camp who play a meaningless friendly in Azerbaijan for whatever reason. This positions him to also close next week. This will then allow us to endlessly debate how slot will line this 12 up and who will be sold and what striker will complete tjr set.
So what is it about Wirtz that we are prepared to pay close to €150m for him? In the position he plays who would be the equivalent from other leagues or is he just far ahead of others?
His stats from an attacking midfield role are great at making assists and chips in with double digit goals. Pressed from the front and wins the ball back most in final 3rd most take ons so can beat a man with dribbling so great in tight area. Think he does just have eveything you need on paper and last couple years has backed it up on the pitch. Is he worth 150m? Prob not, but lfc board obv think he’s the type of talent that can beat reaching performances like Salah and at 22 should still have best years ahead of him. - Also offers something we don’t have a lot of now TAA gone which is playmaking passed, create chances via passing and through balls.
I'm getting the "Slot is happy with squad as it is, and we will save our war chest until the right player who fits our profile becomes available' vibes.
I’ve no idea why anyone thinks this deal won’t happen. You don’t conclude a 100m deal in matter of a few days and when you’re bidding 113m, you don’t give up because Leverkusen want a few million extra. Especially when Wirtz is adamant he wants to move. Leverkusen know they can’t keep him as he’ll be pissed and he’ll be free to move for nothing probably to Bayern or us next summer instead. Proper transfer window hasn’t even opened yet
Good question. Nothing bad is happening. Nothing bad is likely to happen. Roll on preseason. It's only 4 weeks away
Alisson Frimpong konate vvd kerkez There's potential there with marmadashvilli, Bradley and Quansah as players who are quite young back ups too. If this works out for us it does set us up well. Gravenberch Szoboszlai and macallister as a unit is maybe 3 into 2 now. We still don't know. I'm not a fan of jones being anyhwere near those deeper areas but we will see. I'm very unconvinced right now regarding bajcetic so only time will tell what the midfield "4" will be. But again they have years in them and we are again set up well. Salah wirtz gakpo is very interesting but there's room for more here. Jones and Szoboszlai flexibility helps us centrally but Diaz and chiesa are very upgradable. Really if we do pull off the 3rd and 4th buys of the summer then striker becomes and obvious improvement opportunity.
