on saturday our battle weary squad make their way to aldershot who languish in 16th place in the league.

    shots league

    p19 w7 d2 L10 f23 a24 gd-1 p23 pos.16

note the shots marginal gd of -1 and at home the shots have scored 9 and only conceded 9. gills manager andy hessenthaler said in advance of their game at shots, they are strong at home, but gills won 2-1 at shots.

    results.

    L a swindon 0-2,L h gills 1-2, L a millers 0-2,w h brewers 2-0, w h crewe 3-1

i expect the shrews to win 3-1 and following a convincing win in the cup i also expect a few new faces in the team to allow a pre christmas rest for 1 or 2 of our heroes.

    scorers collins wright and wroe.

it is high time someone else wrote these threads, particulary someone who actually goes to the games regularly. so this is aj's last pre match thread. floreat salopia

I had the 'pleasure' of going to Aldershot last season. We even made a weekend of it!

    I'm not going this time...!

As above, I went last year for the weekend. Beautiful weather but not going this year.

Must win game for Shrewsbury particularly as the top 3 look to have tricky matches.

Aldershot 1 (Jack Hylton) Shrewsbury 0 (Morgan sent off)

We've won 5 on the trot in all competitions so this will be a draw.

i am happy with my 3-1 prediction, collins, wroe and wright. att 2322. the lads have gone to fairbourne sands for their tropical break, the waters of the wnion and mawddach will be a real tonic. roland had to be rescued half way up cader idris, his hip flask got entangled in his ropes. but all ok once he had drunk the contents, flora salopia, come on you shrews, breath on em.

it is amazing how relaxing building sandcastles can be.

this sounded a gutless, tired , inept performance from town. gornell and morgan should now be rested, it is time for some new faces up front. it appears shots are strong at home with 60% of the possession for most of the game. 5 town players booked. shrews must win against lowly teams like shots to have any chance of a play off place.

as for the cup, middlebough beat brighton 1-0 at home. we shall see how town perform up there.

a very disapointing outing for the shrews

I was not at the game but we cannot expect to win every week - there will be the odd blip at times. I hope this result is not the start of our normal mid-winter depression. Cheltenham look to be on fire at the moment so we need to be winning games to keep in touch. Perhaps it will be Southend out of the top three who might have a dip in form. I still think we will be good enough overall to get automatic promotion but we must close that four point gap starting with a win at home on Saturday.

if we are serious about automatic promotion we should be winning or at least drawing thease matches or we will start loosing ground with the rest of the pack especially over the winter, remember we missed out by the odd goal last time! and this could be the beginning of 'our' form dip.....Sorry, i have lost my patients with Marvin and he should now be dropped, he simply just not good enough, BSP at best(north or south).

After some reasonable performances of late (against a very poor Northampton and the 10 men of Rotherham) today was always going to be a tester!! Sadly we failed with a poor showing that underlines that approaching the mid point of the season we're not as good as some folks and players think we are.

I'm a bit worried that GT is as perplexed as the rest of us as to where this performance came from but I would venture to suggest that the Shots were up for it due to the antics of twittering Morgan if nothing else.

Time for some home truths GT and a few mind games to instill some backbone.

I put a hell of a lot down to their narrow pitch. Our wingers were ineffectual and it was a poor performance. We've played well as of late and need a win Saturday before the big one on Boxing Day!

It's the ineffective performances that bug me no end!! Ainsworth and Wright need to be doing it week in and week out if we're going to keep on the shirt tails of the leading pack. Anyway, I'm still not convinced that we can rely on wingers delivering quality balls in every game which is borne out by the goal stats. With a narrow pitch this one called for different tactics which we failed to develop.

And, just when you thought that Richards and Wroe might form a midfield partnership they act like strangers in the night.

Inconsistency Mr Turner is sometheing that needs addressing.

Shame it was Mr Holdsworth who said this rather than GT -

"The desire and passion we showed was outstanding. We raised the bar.

"Man for man, it was fantastic. They were giving everything for each other and the shirt. That's what I expect, and what we want.
