I know it’s still a very debatable subject but something inside me just says how mad it is that we are talking about not wanting Henderson who is a full England international still at his age because we’ve Dan Neil who couldn’t and still wouldn’t get a game for the U21s. If Tuchel rates him enough to have him and around the squad it has to be good enough for us surely.
I understand your point but it’s horses for courses. Hendo is great in a team with 80% possession where off the ball isn’t as important. We’ll likely be the opposite of that.
Do you think the club may be deluded in that regard and think/expect we can control games and have the ball hence the interest in Henderson?
Aye I do agree on that mate, we’ll need more energy for sure but surely that’s what the other 2 midfielders are for? I don’t think you can put a value on his experience tbh, you see some the best in the game adapt when their legs start going and they rely a lot on positioning etc.. and Neil isn’t exactly the most convincing defensively but I defo do see the argument against him coming because he is 34 now. If he was 2 years younger I don’t think it would even be a debate. Personally I would get him in to have in and around the squad, especially if we’re looking at signing players who will be missing due to AFCON. Could make an impact off the bench and see us over the line/play a bit through that period if we’re missing a midfielder.
I just don't think he's good enough off the ball at all. He may have a great impact off the field but on it I really don't see what he'll bring to a side that will have less than 40% possession most games.
It wasn’t meant to be accusatory, just trying to understand the recruitment of Henderson from the club’s perspective. I can only think that they believe they can set up in a way that avoids his reduced mobility being exposed. So we can still benefit from the attributes he brings without it being detrimental to the team (beyond me how that’s achieved).
Has to be his leadership imo. I still don’t really see a leader on the pitch for all the brilliance some of the younger lads possess. And how often did we change the midfield and bring someone on to see out a game where it worked? I still he could do that personally. Of course I’d love someone who brings what Henderson can in that sense but 5/6 years younger but realistically who are we going to get and how much would they cost? Gueye is about 36 and played pretty much every game for Everton, a team who don’t play with the ball at all so I don’t think it’s impossible but you’d need energy alongside him.
Medical research has indicated that you can lose up to 90 minutes of your life by watching England International matches...
Great header off the line by Ballard. Hume got booked before but he looks comfortable in that position.
Is Hojlund scared of shooting or something? I’d love to know who’s watched him and thought he’s worth £60m. Expecting a goal now
2-1 Denmark. Think both Hume and Ballard could've done better there. Not helped by the left wing back and the goalkeeper though.
