WTF Podcast has done another former player interview, this time with Charlie Wyke. Another interesting listen if you get a chance.
Really good lad is Wyke. Never thought he got enough credit for his 25 goals one season. Played well that year. He liked his time with us.
I’m going against the grain here. I didn’t think it was in any way groundbreaking and thought it to be a fairly bland run of the mill interview.
Think it was his brother and grandad who had absolute meltdowns when we moved on to better things after giving it the big one when he left
Biggest change in that season was when our coach told him about POMO, that is start attacking the near post and McGeady will put it on your head.
I actually think he could have done a good job as an attacking coach at a top Premier league team. Not convinced that he was a good head coach. Sometimes you have to know your limitations. Then again if you don't try you'll never learn.
It upset me when our fans booed him on his debut at the Sol for Wigan. Some of our fans can be proper nob heads
Loose translation “haven’t got time to listen but will have a read if someone can summarise” Yep… me too!
I had no problem with it personally, it was the season opener against a side who were favourites to be up there with us going for promotion. **** ‘em
I like Lee Johnson as a fan but I'd probably hate working with him. He was manager of Bristol City for four years and improved a lot of players including Charlie Wyke. LJ's latest job involves managing a Man City/City Football Club feeder club after a short term contract developing Man City fringe players. There were rumours of him getting angry behind the scenes at SAFC. There was an incident at Hibs, Jake Doyle Hayes sued him for injuries sustained at a training match. I suspect Alex Neil didn't have to do much to get us promoted. LJ had already done the work. The players just needed a calmer head at the wheel.
