My big annoyance is every year they’ve done it they’ve left it to literally last possible moment to announce the actual game. I would’ve made my own way but I can’t plan it

I can't help thinking they asked Rab C Nesbitt if he had any thoughts on a name for their club.

Not something I'd want to do myself, but the people I know that have been have all said it was fantastic, and were full of praise for all those involved. Lot's of nice little touches showing they'd put thought into the occasion.

Didn't we try to play a Dutch team a while ago but plod got it cancelled because they were bringing a few "game" lads over?

Correct. Bet North Sea Ferries were delighted with the decision. Also remember some of these' lads' who had already pre booked hotels in Hull still came across and, erm, just spent money in the city centre then went home again.
But we don't want visitors from Holland using our Ferry service, coming over here, booking into our hotels, drinking in our pubs, spending money here and forging links with the city do we?

It's all a misunderstanding, when someone said they were going to play Liverpool in a friendly the reply was getefu.

I wonder whether any benefit to it might be waning. At first it seemed like our visits there generated a fair bit of excitement locally and sold some merchandise, but we seem to have become very unpopular over there since Acun became involved with Fenerbahçe.

Surprised about the comments about Sunderland, would have been exciting when we were in league 2 , we just played them regularly in the league , I struggle to think of a more boring friendly personally . Rather play Scunny or York away or something .

Aren't all friendlys just 'Boring' then?

    Each to their own but...

I quite like a City v Sunderland game for some reason and have done since the early 70's. Given it comes at a point where we should be starting to take shape player-wise:))Yes,laugh at your leisure),it might have had a semi competitive edge and gave us a bit of insight on the new players our owner has decided on for this season.

Anyway, yeah York away would do for me as well as it's only 2 1/2 hours from Edinburgh:emoticon-0148-yes:

Your opinion is as valid as mine TBF.:emoticon-0148-yes:

I don't mind a friendly but they were far more informative years ago.As has been said further up the pages,if we're gonna **** around with no glamour attached then better to help out our local, lower level Clubs and give them the proceeds?

I suppose it's probably just an excuse to play for the Raich Carter Trophy again.
