So if you think we won't be signing anyone major, does this mean you will adjust your prediction for next season down accordingly? So now you think we'll win the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, PL and CL, but only just?

My response was about having signings all lined up for a 1st July announcement.

My predictions are to win the quadruple

It's a possibility that the payment terms don't matter much. The date of the initial fee (be that an amortized installment or the whole amount) could be linked for PSR purposes to the date of the player registration. If that's the case, we probably wouldn't want to announce a player prior to PL registration on the 1st July in case it they get sniped by another team (looking at you Chelsea). This works for selling clubs as well who may want the funds to go into the next PSR cycle when making a sale.

This is of course pure speculation with no factual data to back it up

I didn't say on 1st July though. I said from. So from 1st July onwards we will start announcing.

If they are already lined up then why would you drip release the announcements?

Nonsense! How can you have pre-agreements announced in January, for example, when players have expiring contracts?!

Wishful thinking mate, I guarantee there will be no announcement on 1st July.

So not lined up then. Mbeumo could have been in talks.

£100m for Gordon would be OK. We have to bump our transfer kitty with a big sale at some point.

£45m Man U are paying for Mbuemo. Same we paid for ****ing Barnes. And you wonder why Mitchell said our transfer model wasn’t good.

Not quite. They have 'offered' £45m, plus £10m add ons.
Brentford want over £60m up front.
    Still negotiating.

I'm pretty sure that Brentford saw how much Cunha went for and have determined a player with a higher output last season should go for at least as much

Man Utd had that bid rejected I think.

As for the remainder of your point, Barnes is pretty much our only major signing under this ownership that hasn't been a massive success, and even then, he hasn't been terrible. We must literally have one of the most successful transfer records of any PL club since our takeover. It would be nice to have brought in some players like Huijsen etc. but our money has been spent on the likes of Bruno, Isak, Botman, Gordon, Tonali, Livramento, Hall and yes, Barnes. Very impressive work which is yielding results on the pitch too.

Sure, but given we haven’t signed anyone for 2 years (and counting) that’s an easy record to maintain!

Barnes has been miss far more than hit. I’m just worried this is going to be a missed opportunity. Far too negative, I get that, but it’s been so slow and quiet for far too long I’d just like to see some real excitement generated, really start to blow up on an international stage and to say a huge **** you to the established elite.

Yes, but that is because we'd chosen to frontload and spent everything we could on bringing in the forementioned players. I'd say that's a decision that has paid off, considering results. Other than Barnes, which of those players would you have preferred us to leave off of signing in order to save some money for spending in those barren windows?

Hindsight is great, right?! And ultimately the success Howe has achieved, the club have achieved, is exceptional.

Maybe I’d have looked to sell Wilson when the chance was there. Almiron as well. Targett was a bad choice too. Still having Minteh at RW would be a huge issue solved ahead of next season. Barnes does count I’m afraid, he remains a poor purchase, money that would’ve been better spent in goal or CB.
