Manning must rate him as he coached him at Lommel in Belgium. He was in goal for Plymouth's worst period of goals as they made some good signings in January and Hazard was in goal for most games after that.

Apparently the switch in starting GK also corresponded with a change in manager so tactics may have had an effect

I can't find any "distribution" stats for Grimshaw. Does any site keep stats like that for keepers?

PinkUn reporting that Grimshaw looks likely to sign this window as no2 and the top target for no1 at this stage is Vladan Kovačević

Sainz may be ruining his own transfer to Bilbao. Looks as though they want him as a squad player but he thinks he should be going in as a regular starter! That is some demand coming from a Championship player potentially moving to a team that’s qualified for Champions League this year

I hope we’ve been taking a look at this guy in our scouting missions at Legia Warsaw…he looks like proper energetic DM.

Thanks for the responses. I've now looked at those sites and am none the wiser. <laugh>

Out-performs Long on virtually all metrics, but by the same token, inferior to Gunn. On the plus side, he appears not to suffer from RITH syndrome ("rabbit-in-the-headlights syndrome"), letting fewer of the shots he could be expected to save go past him. He even performed better than Gunn in that particular respect last season, though still in negative territory.
In short, an improvement on Long as No.2, but the next keeper signing is the big one ;)

Me too. He seems just the player for Manning's style of football aimed at winning possession back (excellent tackler), countering quickly (pace, excellent passing and superb through balls). Good age (20) and all of the attributes needed including a ManUtd pedigree. Wouldn't cost a fortune either.

Which leaves Reyes and Barden where apart from out on loan and then let go? On top of that it is unlikely that Long will be going anywhere apart from the Bank to collect his salary and his settee on match days. Presumably this also means a change from a youth strategy to the tried, tested and failed strategy of experienced journeymen signings. I for one have gone from a feeling of hope for the future to complete despair

Not at all 1950, the squad is currently packed with youth, but we have to recognise that they need support from some more experienced players for some balance. Both Grimshaw and Kovacevic are 27 so hardly journeyman and fairly young in goalkeeping terms. Reyes will more than likely be loaned again. Barden may fill the 3rd keeper role. Agree on Long that he may be difficult to shift but I imagine we wouldn’t demand much of a fee if any to help with his exit

I'm not talking about the current squad, which has been built on a ' youth strategy ' but the strategy going forward. Reyes and possibly Barden could well be loaned out again but both are out of contract at the end of the season and then what? A complete waste of time and money. A fee for Long is the least of the problems. He is on Championship wages and who will be prepared to match that assuming there is anyone in the lower leagues interested. Incidentally there is a lot of speculation in the sports press over here today that 3 Italian Clubs, including Roma, are interested in Sargent. If he goes will they give Crnac his chance or replace him with an experienced player from, say, another Championship Club? That will say a lot about the strategy going forward.

I think you’re right regarding Barden but Reyes signed a new contract in March until 2027 with the option of a further year.

Yes I’ve seen the rumoured interest Roma as well. I would expect a player slight older than Crnac (21) to come in but that doesn’t mean that he would get less minutes, as we saw this season, we need to rotate players and you play the one that’s banging in goals hopefully.

I certainly think the days over signing 30+ year olds are over

Looking at the list of players out of contract from the PL clubs, I've narrowed down to the below players.
    • Josh Dasilva (26) - Brentford
    • Tom Cairney (34) - Fulham
    Other younger possibilities could be:
    • Dan Gore (20) - Man Utd
    • Tommy Doyle (23) - Wolves
    • Tyler Morton (22) - Liverpool
    • Alfie Devine (20) - Spurs
