That’s why I said if that’s what he wanted. Howe himself said we need to deliver transfers early. And then Mitchell leaves. Leaving Howe as the senior chap to deliver his request of early transfers.

He can’t have it both ways. He’s delivered as a manager. But maybe he should allow others to deliver player recruitment.

Howe still won’t be the one involved in actually making deals happen or not

He might well make his choices and have the final say but won’t be the one that says yes or no on price, or wages, or contract terms or even gets involved in the talks with clubs, players and agents.

I suspect he meets the players and family to judge fit with the squad and staff

The rumours (and they aren't confirmed) are that we were offering Mbuemo up to £120k and Man Utd offered £250k. It doesn't matter how good our scouting and recruitment office are, if clubs with much deeper pockets want the same player we're not getting them.

We need to cast our net wider and that is on us but I think it makes sense to go for your first choice targets first and then move to back ups. I think at the moment we're simply trying to get players who may be financially out of our reach but as the Summer wears on we'll look at more reasonable options. Any time in the next 8 weeks it fine by me, would prefer not August though and them missing pre-season.

Howes got the 9th most expensive side in the world, so let's not pretend he's had no signings, or had his hands tied behind his back.

It's undeniable he's done/doing a brilliant job here, but people are simply warning against a thirst for power or more in general, Manius Aquillius springs to mind.

The success he's had following huge backing doesn't mean he can fail in the transfer market and do badly next season. It's just the way it is and even he will know that. We have to hope he does well now he's got his wish, and there's a good chance he will on the evidence so far.

True. I mean £250k v £120k it’s a no brainer isn’t it. I just can’t believe manu can currently afford the transfer. I thought they where skint?

Shift Casemiro, Anthony, Rashford and Hojlund off the books saves them nearly £900K per week off the wage bill. Not sure they will be able to get rid of them all without some major incentives though.

It's merely a reminder that the gulf in revenues is enormous. Newcastle having a couple of better seasons on the pitch? It matters not so much off it.

Football is largely decided by financial means off the pitch and what happens on it has become somewhat of a charade. I mean, you'll get some seasons where the big spenders don't perform, but status quo will remain eventually, or at least more often than not.

There is a player in Hojlund in the right system. The others are crap. You’re right the salaries they are on other teams can’t pay half.

Craig Hope was on talksport this morning stirring the pot with the club and apparently it’s “a shambles” at the top.

True but we should be able to catch up with them over time. Financially that is.

Craig Hope is a thorn in the clubs side. He profits from playing the fan base like a flute.

Possibly, we'll get closer and closer yeah, but theirs will grow too! right now nufc are miles off it, and we have to appreciate the fact.

Papers to sell, I suppose. There's likely some truth in it. As I said here earlier, what kind of PL club actually puts out a job advert for a set piece coach?! Laughable. You'd not even see that at Forest Green Rovers.

Don't think the Saudi's get it. Staveley and Ghodoussi look like they were able to just put stuff into action; whatever happened in the aftermath of their lack of experience has seemingly led to a massive shift in process and has slowed us down far too much. We'll never know what's gone on, mind.
