The penalty you got in the FA Cup provided enough 'balance' ... but as you say, that's the life of a football fan.

We only lost 3 games that season ...

I’m starting to think that Ange will get to start the season again next time round. I think if he was going to be shown the door, it would have happened by now so the club could control the narrative around it a bit better. Clearly we’re not sitting on our hands, as there’s been movement at board level, so decisions are being made already.

How we think about this comes down to what you think success is. I’ve said a lot that winning a trophy that isn’t the league isn’t always a sure sign of a quality team. There are so many moments in a final, and in knockout football, that change the course of the narrative around a season. If we accept the argument that Ange sacked off the league months ago and focused entirely on the EL (which his team selections would suggest to an extent) then surely that’s the point of having the big stadium and all the extra revenue generation that comes with it - because we get big crowds and money from non-football things, we can be less concerned about squeaking up a few places into mid table and can prioritise a cup, in a way that would have been harder to (financially) justify if we were still at WHL. The best Pochettino side probably blows Ange’s Spurs out of the water over a league campaign but who would win a one-off game? Who was more successful? Or have they both been successful, to an extent, on different terms?

We’ve seen signs that Ange can change, as he did in the latter stages of the EL campaign. He can play a more pragmatic, yet still effective, style of football. Why we didn’t in the league I don’t know. If Ange can find the right blend between Angeball and Angewall then we could see a steadier overall level of performance across the course of a season, as long as we also make the needed investments in areas of the squad (fullback, CM, LCB, Winger and probably striker) to level up the overall quality he has at his disposal.

Of the names bandied around I think Thomas Frank is the one I like the most but at this stage I think we’ll focus on Ange. I really don’t know what I want to happen here, so am kind of at peace with either outcome. But with every day that passes it’s more likely that Ange stays.

The theory I've seen doing the rounds is that we didn't commit to coaching the tactics we adopted in the latter stages of the Europa campaign as standard since there was always going to be 4-6 changes to the squad between the Europa matches and the PL ones

Not entirely sure I see the logic with that one, considering we had plenty of players who wouldn't have been starters for the Europa matches but would be expected to get a fair share of minutes like Sarr, Spence and Tel would also need to be up to speed

Frankly would make more sense to admit that Ange was hedging his bets that we might meet Man Utd in the final so didn't want to give them free scouting data for how we'd set up - not least because he would be vindicated by saying that, considering Amorim has said he started Mount entirely because he thought Porro and Udogie would be cutting inside all match when our Europa tactics from the quarters onwards had Udogie hug the flank and Porro pinging the ball forward from the halfway line

I think Levy is waiting until Ange returns from his holiday before sacking him. There’s absolutely no chance Levy is happy with the way this season has gone, and probably didn’t enjoy the performance in the final. He gave a big speech a few years ago about wanting to see the team play with flair and excite everyone and regularly compete in the league.

Bar Ange’s first 10 games, this simply hasn’t happened. He will not see Ange as the man to kick on next season.

Looks like Mason’s taking the WBA job.

Best of luck to him and hope he smashes it. Worth keeping an eye on him too. Probably had one of the best upbringings as a young coach in football under some elite level managers all with varying brands/ philosophies of football for him to learn from.

Joe Cole claims that Michael Carrick has been approached

Who are we asking next? The table full of Manc fans who couldn't go five minutes of the Europa League final without screaming for a penalty or red card I was stuck next to?

We shall see what his tuition has taught him to do, and more importantly what not to do.

Also an opportunity for some WBAspurs.

Hasn't Inzaghi signed for a Saudi club, pretty much 24 hours after Inter **** canned him?
Or do you mean Fillipe Inzaghi?
