I came into some flack at the time for saying he should have been given until Christmas. Once the fans turned that night in the stadium however I agreed that was the time to go. Can't really come back from that.

I could see what Walter was trying to do though, and on a rare few occasions it worked. I still stand by it - The sheer amount of squad churn and how late most of it happened was what killed our season, not Walter. Yes, he could have adapted and built towards his playing style instead of going gung ho but nobody was going to come in as manager and be successful in that scenario. It's the same reason again I'm not too bothered about who our new manager is now, and am far more concerned with our summer business. We need a more stable squad whilst improving our weak areas. Not a merry go round where we bring in practically a new side again once the season's already began. That summer was ridiculous.

Recruitment and a settled camp are crucial this season...I'm not gonna hold my breath though because I see a rather large turnover coming again.

 

I defended Walter longer than most and thought he was dealt a bad hand by the owner and recruitment but he certainly could’ve done things a lot differently to endear himself to the players and supporters. Not saying he had to be a pushover and all pally with the players but his approach to man management didn’t do him any favours. He was obviously frustrated all pre-season and took it out on some of the players.

 

I listened to the interview before I read the comments, and when Egan said 'err, let's move on' to the host, I assumed he was referring to when the host said about three managers in 12 months and how do you work/perform/sign for at a club run like that (I'm paraphrasing), rather than not wanting to criticise Selles - I thought he was being tactful to not criticise the club.
