I think our hesitancy is down to finding the right player that will work in the squad. They need to have the technical and physical qualities we require, but also the right dressing room attitude and on pitch / in training work rate.

When you combine all those factors, the pool of available players decreases dramatically and we are probably battling with teams that have more historical success, global pull and a higher wage budget.

Barnes has all those factors, so we got him in. Vlach is clearly never going to be our starting keeper but does appear to have the right dressing room attitude to not disrupt the team, despite the reasons he came in.

I think this method of recruitment will lead to a lower number of incomings but a high success rate. A low success rate in the market leads to an Everton, if you don't have countless funds from massive commercial revenue.

    Delap off to Chelsea,allegedly.
Heard stories about Ferguson acting the maggot, big headed etc not a £80m player now, still very young and would have him but might explain his downturn!

Yeah that’s been known for a while. Ferguson, clearly not an option for us then.

This little window is really a window that's almost exclusive to the ****house clubs. It's a short window in which they can hoover up their main targets nice and early.

The next window everyone else can hoover up the crumbs and the ****house clubs if they feel they need.

    It's who not when mate.

This is the best part, because everyone deep down inside is hoping for something exciting, but when they eventually sign DCL and Quansah we'll get two reactions

    1. The roly: to imply the club needs to be burnt to the ground.
    2. The mental gymnastic: To declare how happy you are with how things are going.

Somewhere in the middle maybe, although I'm actually already declaring that DCL would be a good option on a free.

I simply expect the underwhelming, but I'm going to be frustrated if we won't get something a little more exciting.

Quansah looked to be a quality young CB before Slot took over. A bit on the slow side, but a high ceiling.

DCL is too injury prone though. We need to be weeding out our own players with physio-room addiction, not adding to their number.

I remember about 2 years ago hearing Newcastle fans saying they didn't want Dembele because he was injury prone.

Today isn't Dominic Calvert Lewin, so it's actually a very good sign that we're all reaching our level.

I suppose it's confirmation that no matter what the club brings in there's always going to be numbers not happy with it.
