Just seen today’s score. A heroic effort with ten men. Italiano will go down in history if we lift silverware.

Gary Lineker expected to leave the BBC 23 minutes ago Share Save Katie Razzall Culture and Media Editor please log in to view this image PA Media Gary Lineker is set to leave the BBC with an announcement expected on Monday. Speculation is mounting the 64-year-old will step down after he presents his final Match of the Day next weekend. Lineker, listed as the highest-paid BBC presenter, had been due to remain at the forefront of the BBC's coverage of next season's FA Cup and the World Cup in 2026, despite previously announcing he will leave Match of the Day at the end of this season. But last week he had to apologise after sharing a social media post about Zionism that included an illustration of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic insult. Advertisement Lineker said he very much regretted the references, adding he would never knowingly share anything antisemitic. Last week, BBC Director General Tim Davie said: "The BBC's reputation is held by everyone, and when someone makes a mistake, it costs us." It is understood that BBC bosses considered Lineker's position untenable. The former England striker has attracted criticism before for his posts on social media in the past. He was temporarily suspended from the BBC in March 2023 after an impartiality row over a post in which he said language used to promote a government asylum policy was "not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s". The BBC's social media rules were then rewritten to say presenters of flagship programmes outside news and current affairs - including Match of the Day - have "a particular responsibility to respect the BBC's impartiality, because of their profile on the BBC". In November 2024, Lineker announced his departure from Match of the Day, but said he would remain with the BBC to front FA Cup and World Cup coverage. In an interview earlier this year about leaving, Lineker said he believed the BBC wanted him to leave Match of the Day as he was negotiating a new contract last year, saying: "Well, perhaps they want me to leave. There was the sense of that." The BBC didn't comment on Lineker's suggestion at the time but called him a "world-class presenter" and added that Match of the Day "continually evolves for changing viewing habits". Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan have been announced as new presenters of the show for the start of the 2025-26 season.

Man Utd booed off after defeat in Malaysia please log in to view this image Image source,Reuters Image caption, United will play Hong Kong on Friday in the final match of the post-season tour Simon Stone Chief football news reporter in Kuala Lumpur Published 28 May 2025 1697 Comments Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believes it will do his players good to leave Kuala Lumpur with the sound of boos ringing in their ears after a 1-0 loss to ASEAN All-Stars. After ending a desperate Premier League campaign with a victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, the club flew 6,600 miles to Malaysia only to find there was no respite from their troubles. Less than 24 hours after Wolves striker Matheus Cunha was cleared to have a medical before completing a £62.5m move to Old Trafford, United's old goalscoring failings struck again in the first match of the post-season tour to Asia. In temperatures of more than 30 degrees and high humidity, Amorim's side failed to take a succession of chances despite regular substitutions which meant they ended up using 25 outfield players. A second-half goal from Myanmar winger Maung Maung Lwin was enough to give a South East Asia XI victory in front of an official attendance of 72,550 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium, triggering boos from a substantial portion at the final whistle from fans who had paid up to £260 to watch United on their first visit to Malaysia since 2009. "I always feel guilty for the performance of the team since the first game I was here," said Amorim. "The boos maybe is something we need because every game we lost in the Premier League the fans were always there. I felt when we finished every time the supporters were with us. Let's see for next season." The United boss would not offer any update on the Cunha situation, stating firmly: "You have to wait for that for the next season. "It is for you guys (the media) to talk about. I won't confirm anything. I have no news. "We will see, but there will be some changes." United finished 15th in the Premier League, on 42 points - accepted to be the club's worst campaign since the 1973-74 relegation season. They also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham 1-0 in Bilbao to miss out on a place in next season's Champions League. It is thought the trip will generate about $10m (£7.8m) for the club, but comes at the end of a season where United have played 60 games in all competitions. And Amorim seemingly has no answers to his team's inability to get positive results saying: "We don't have it in us not to choke in every exercise, in every game – that is what happened."
London local news on BBC just had a long piece about all the trophies won by London clubs in recent weeks, but inexpilcably failed to mention Rangers winning the Premier League Cup.

40 years today since Barry McGuigan won the Boxing world title at Loftus Road. https://www.rte.ie/news/ulster/2025/0608/1517288-barry-mcguigan-title/ On the poster in the article, in the top left hand corner, you can see QPR mentioned. I had him in my taxi a few yeats ago and I asked him if QPR meant anything to him as that was where he won the world title. He said yes even though he was a Spurs fan. He still looks out for QPR results and the club keep asking him to go back and do an interview on the pitch at half time. Was anybody from here at the fight in 1985? The atmosphere was amazing.
