Some of the explanations has been psr. We can’t spend just as we like. Another part is look at last season.at the start of last season 99.999% of fans would have taken your hand off if you’d offered them a Cup AND CL qualification. The remaining part is you turning your glass upside down.
We didn't have any money left for the 1st CL entry. I think that if we had had a few more points and had CL sorted earlier, we would have been able to make moves earlier. We don't yet have the historical pull or wage budget of the established "big 6" for players to be confident we'll consistently be in the CL. We need to convince players that we are going to be consistent contenders in the European spaces and pay good wages. That way they will be happier to commit to the club outside of windows
It shouldn't be a surprise that the clubs with the highest revenues and prestige are hoovering up their first picks earlier than those who pick up what's left over.
Roland: "Why don't we ever find the gems like Semenyo etc. before they've made a name for themselves and cost the big bucks? Useless scouts!" Also Roland: "I've never chuffing heard of these players. Useless scouts!" Some stats for you then, Roly: Semenyo had 6 goals and 3 assists in his final 23 Championship matches in 22-23, playing as a forward for Bristol City, before Bournemouth snapped him up. Rudoni had 10 goals and 12 assists in 45 Championship matches in 24-25, playing predominantly as a central midfielder for Coventry City. He sounds a good prospect. I'd be pleased if we get him in.
1 in 2 goal contributions for a nugget in the championship. That team being Coventry. Pretty good stats. Just like Barnes.
According to Luke Edwards we're going to sign 2 first team players and 2 young prospects. Sales will allow more. So.... Which position misses out this season on being upgraded? GK CB RW
Assuming accuracy in that slightly disappointing suggestion, then from current player rumours I'd go with signing Mbeumo and Guehi as the first teamers. Probably better relying on Pope in goal with Dubs backing him up than it is relying on an aging Schar with Lascelles as the backup RCB, or Murphy with no natural backup for RW. Unless one of prospects is Dibbling...
Depends on the term prospect as it seems we have had solid interest in Huijsen, Delap and Garcia. They could all fall under that description. Depressingly we look like we’ve missed out on all three, and as we’ve seen with Guehi in the past never seem to have much of a plan b. I’d be surprised if Luke isn’t right. We’re always at least two short every window.
I’ve watched him a lot at AFC Wimbledon , shouldn’t be anywhere near our line of thought for the reserve team on a free, let anlone spending money on the lad for the first team imho. There are numerous CM’s out there who could come in and actually make an impact on the squad. Rudoni is not one of them.
It feels, for whatever reason, that we’re like moths to a flame on scouting. I get we want to try and avoid mistakes, but this Joan Garcia has had the season of his life, as did Huijsen, Mbuemo and Delap, and also Olise and Guehi before them. Rudoni is in that category, one decent season and we’re interested? It makes me question and doubt the scouting, specifically since nephew Howe got promoted. Anyone could say “that Huijsen - it’s a thumbs up”. Where’s the actual scouting gone from 2022?
