To this day, every one I speak to who is non City, agrees Windass’s goal was the best purely technical goal, let alone the impact, passion etc, goal that has been scored at the new Wembley. ****ing love it. UTT
Looks like Delap’s ruining his career by going to Chelsea, I think a move to someone like Everton, or Newcastle would be better, but they won’t be paying him stupid money! Still makes me laugh that Acun was trying to convince people we had a chance with him.
Totally agree on the first point, although, on the second one, to be fair, he’d done nothing really before he came to us and started to show some real promise but again if Ipswich hadn’t have splashed out on what was a bit of a punt, I’m not sure who else would have spent that kind of money on him at that stage.
So no credit for him getting Delap on loan in the first place despite him not showing much potential before he joined us? Ah yes, that bit was all Rosenior obviously.
Yeah Acun's scouting has been absolutely brilliant since Rosenior left. Joseph was a snip at 2.5m. Nothing to do with Rosenior working with Delap at Derby I'm sure.
New manager may get Joseph playing and scoring for fun we don’t know a different approach so he may still show his potential and be a snip at 2.5.
I do find this Kyle Joseph pile-on very puzzling. He completely passes the eye test for me, works hard, drives at the opposition, tries lots of stuff instead of just playing safe. The fact that some of those things he tries go wrong seems to totally define him for some people, which is an incredibly narrow view. He needs to start scoring, obviously, but that is tricky in a side battling relegation and playing defensively. He’s a similar kind of player to Longman, and arguably an upgrade. Football fans need a witch to burn, Joseph is the latest one I suppose.
Apologies I wasn't trying to 'pile on' merely to contrast the signing of Delap by Rosenior with subsequent striker signings. Are we giving Acun credit for Delap and criticising the (so far) waste on Joseph, or are we acknowledging that Rosenior gets the credit for Delap and the scouting since has been poor? Dress it up however you want but Joseph isn't a kid, and 2.5m on a striker who doesn't score a single goal in half a season is factually a poor return. Comparing him to Longman is quite strange, but the fact that we sold Longman for 500k and spent 5x that on Joseph you'd certainly be hoping he's more than 'arguably' an upgrade.
I wasn’t really aiming that at you, your post just triggered the wider thought in my head. Regarding his goal scoring, I ‘dressed it up’ exactly the same as you just did.
That it was a **** return? I'm sure Joseph himself would admit to being disappointed with his output. Think this will be a big season for him, one way or another.
im really sorry but i dont think a barometer of 'works' hard is any sort of compliment for a championship footballer he's not even close to an upgrade on longman, and he cost a fortune i hope he comes good, and a new season is a fresh start but he's been utter **** for half a season 2.5m.. what the ****
Weird part of this conversation is I actually quite like Joseph and agree that his pressing in games such as Preston helped turn the game for us, but for 2.5m that should be the bare minimum. Surely no one can say with a straight face that the recruitment post-Rosenior has been even a patch on the group of players we attracted under him.
But obviously people with a lot more experience than us including Bruce think he has what it takes now hopefully this manager with a pre season will play him in the right position and get him scoring.
Do they? Or was Bruce just maximising his fee and saying the same empty platitudes any manager would say?
I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm pointing out Bruce praising Joseph and talking him up doesn't necessarily mean what you think it does.
