Rumour from a Spurs source saying that personal terms have been agreed with Dibling, just the transfer payment / structure to be sorted with Southampton. Guess Spurs want this done early but will only get if they pay the £40 / £50 million Saints want, if not they could lose out just like Liverpool did with Lavia last season, which should be a warning to them, that Saints won’t be bullied into a sale.
I'm expecting this one to drag on so it'd be better for everyone if Spurs just paid it early and moved on.
Don’t really think it matters if it drags on or not tbh. No way Saints should drop their price this early and very unlikely the buying team will pay what we want this early either. We can plan for next season knowing that Dibling isn’t going to be here because it’s 99% that some deal will be sorted out before the deadline so it doesn’t really matter if he goes tomorrow or on deadline day
You can plan with that in mind but you can't execute other transfers because then you end up in the position whereby you are in financial trouble unless you sell Dibling. Buying clubs will know this and then low ball you. I do agree it'll likely drag on but Spurs will know that half the PL is interested in him so may think their best chance is to pay what we want now.
£40 million for Dibling would be excellent business for Saints but Levy is savvy enough not to be taken for a ride. I would snap Spur's hand off if offered this. £50 million would be ridiculous of a good half a season
His potential is enormous. Playing in a good team will unleash his talents in a way that can't happen at Saints. Which is why our stance should be £50mill or **** off. Someone will end up paying it IMO.
We aren’t going to need to spend huge this window so I don’t think the Dibling deal will hold anything up our end. Last time we went down we spent like £30m total in the summer? Our squad is arguably more complete this time with proven Champ players and we shouldn’t have the same level of turnover of players as last time. Even if we spend £50m and keep Dibling because nobody wants to bid enough we should be able to cover that with other sales/just running with it for the season and taking a loss on the year
I don't even think it was £30m tbh - but the £60m we wasted on January was a big part of that too. It isn't just signing players though. Realistically we have to sell at least 1 of Dibling or Fernandes and if we have them both at the end then buying clubs will have the upper hand. Fortunately with Lavia we had 2 rich clubs bidding against each other - that might not be the case this time round.
Yeah but ultimately if the price for either drops to say £30m then multiple teams will be interested and that will drive the price back up. The only way we could get into trouble is if the player is adamant about joining one team specifically so all the other teams don’t bother coming in for him. I think both will end up going for somewhere around £80m combined, throw in Ramsdale and we break £100m before you add up all the players who will leave for smaller fees. Yeah I wasn’t sure on how much we spent. Charles and Stewart the only deals I could remember and that was about £18m combined I think, not sure who else we bought that summer or if it was just loans for Downes, THB etc
Ipswich looking to sign Mubama from City as their Delap replacement. He played against Saints in the u21 final the other day
Although it’s always sad to see a homegrown talent like Tyler move on I think £50mill will have us sorted and would be a touch to have it done early doors. Getting serious Bale vibes off this one, think Ange & Spurs could bring the best out of Tyler. They have a great track record with young players too. Wish him all the best personally
He’s a tough player to call at this stage, I don’t know whether it’s physical or mental, but we’ve seen Le Tissier levels of work rate. Robinson worked a lot harder and tracked back more against Arsenal than I’ve see from Tyler all season With the ball and we’re touching on the potential to be world class, the close control, burst of pace, vison and passing ability and that’s what will ultimately mean we’ll get the high price we seek. I’d love him to stay, because I think the championship is the right level for him atm and he is the type of player who makes football enjoyable to watch watch, but we have to be realistic as supporters, but if Tyler thinks he can coast defensively for whoever he signs for he’ll have a rude awakening.
Disagree with you here. Dibling does track back and put in his fair share of tackles. I've seen it plenty of times. More than the likes of Tadic ever did. Seems I'm on my own with this one though. I really must have been watching a different player from everyone else.
