Feb 1984 away at Arsenal. A fantastic 2-0 win. Ian Stewart screamer at the clock end. Sadly, I was in the North Bank with Arsenal mates and told to keep schtum, which was a struggle.
An away match at Bournemouth & Boscombe, October 1966, following our World Cup victory,12 years old with my Dad. He dressed me up with a blue & white scarf, a QPR rosette and a WWII wooden ARP rattle that Dad had painted in blue & white hoops. We had B&B supporters all around us on the massed terrasses (no segregation back then). The R's won the match 3-1 with Rodney Marsh scoring twice. Dad got me nervous with his rather load comments, like, "Get in there!", "Take him out", "You dirty dog!", "Rodneeeeee, lovely". A great day was had by all.
That season Dad and I travelled to Oxford United for the return fixture for what should have been and we expected a celebration of our Division Three championship, but we naturally played like crap and lost 2-1. Not sure if Alan Wills played that match (but he should of, based his performance in the reverse fixture), recall Rodney clowning around but to no avail that day! A truly disappointing drive back to Andover for us both.
Wow! I remember seeing that. The Boro game was a massive dissapointment, we expected to lose the replay. I listened on the radio and was already thinking of Wembely. Happy days.
