I think he could work quite well as the sitter in our system, especially since we won't have much of the ball, kinda like the role neil plays now
I wouldn’t want Henderson but if it does happen there’s not many better for Neil and Rigg to learn from
I’ve just got in my head pace and power needed for the prem. enzo will be central and he doesn’t have the physicality (obvs excels everywhere else), then you throw in Henderson into it I think we get massively overran and overpowered. His experience will be a positive though, good pro, good attitude, would fit in in that sense. Current ability and that Saudi move, just puts me off like. We’ll see though.
Henderson would be a bad signing. Please go and watch some of the Ajax clips from the end of the season. He's good on the ball but my god off the ball he looks like he's 50 and that's against players nowhere near the level of the PL. Unless he's coming in on a free on one of the lowest wages in the squad, i'm against it.
He'd be our best player and it wouldn't even be close, just completed a season with Ajax playing almost 50 games and was in a recent England squad. You'd watch him once on the opening day of the season and demand he start every game after.
no just sticking with here for all Sunderland news. Mental health much better now I’m not subjected to opinions I don’t want to see!!
I've watched him 16 times for Ajax this season, once in person. Arguably the worst player on the pitch every game off the ball. Genuinely horrific.
I've come round on Henderson as a signing assuming he accepts essentially token wages and a squad role as a mentor figure. Obviously he's not starting in the PL anymore but would do a job.
Hope you are right mate but just imo if he’s our best player for next season then wed be in for a near impossible task of staying up. History shows 35 year olds generally struggle in the premier league, especially at the bottom of it. But I’ll admit, I don’t watch Ajax so could be underrating him, just going off perception of someone at that age and what I’ve seen from midfielders in the prem in recent years.
If that’s true then it goes to show match ratings are a load of cadswallop. Not doubting you at all because there’s a few in here who’ve said the same thing. I think he’d bring leadership we need but as I said yesterday personally I’d want better than both Henderson and Neil, especially if we’re to leave either of Bellingham or Rigg in the midfield. We’ll need a solid, experienced player alongside.
Still very good on the ball, averaging around 95 touches per game, so you can nullify his lack of ability to move. Here he'd get under half of that so I just really don't see the point. Ajax had a very thin squad as well don't think they had a real natural replacement
Rely a lot on what you do with the ball and considering he averaged nearly 100 touches it's going to boost his rating massively. I would be concerned if our sitting midfield options are Neil and Henderson.
He’s good for the squad and to help see games out late one. As well as knowing what it means to play here. I’m for it at the right cost
