My son-in-law is a Sunderland fan but he also has a soft spot for Liverpool. So, as it was a Bank Holiday, he took my eldest daughter and 2 year-old grandson to watch the parade yesterday. They parked at Manchester, then got the train in to Liverpool. When the incident occurred yesterday, all of the trains and buses out of Liverpool were stopped, so they decided to look for a hotel/guest house, as they didn't want my grandson on the streets for an indefinite period. To their dismay, hotel and guest house prices had rocketed to ridiculous levels. Most hotels were charging around £700 for the night and the worst example I saw online was a guest house called Kop View, who normally charged £43 for a room and was now charging £3,396. What ever happened to Community spirit? There should be a law passed to prevent these establishments increasing their tariffs. For me, it's the worst form of exploitation.
I detest this “ dynamic pricing “ as it’s now called - given this name to try to excuse and explain pure greed - usually against people who have a need or unexpected problem . Nor do I accept that it’s normal economics of increased demand means prices MUST go up . No they don’t - people can choose to keep them the same. For me a national website to name establishments and companies who do so , and encouragement to avoid them
They might help fellow scousers, but last night their help did not extend to visitors to their city. Some of the hotels were faceless nationals, but the worst one I saw, which I mentioned in my OP, was local and among the worst offenders. Not a great advert for their City.
Apparently them prices were already set before that unfortunate event happened because they knew the city would be packed for the bus parade. Some over emotional scouser has just shouted that at me on the premier league board
Would have been priced ridiculous anyway due to the number of tourists then after that incident and people struggling to leave it would have shot up again! It's wrong and should be some sort of lawn against it. I hope they all had empty rooms for the night!
