If you're having an internal power struggle, the person who just won a cup and CL qualification is always going to win. The two have obviously never been on good terms, the rumours have been about since the day he came in. They'll know who they want to sign, just wave some cash about.
I think it's very simple.. Howe doesn't like him interfering, made it plain, and waited for the perfect moment to defeat him. Howe has litterally pulled the sword from the stone this season and Mitchell joins Ashworths laden old bones in the cemetery.
Yeah, it looks very much as though Mitchell has been seen off by Howe. Didn't Ashworth have a decent working relationship with Howe though? Fairly sure that was what was reported. I know it makes your 'iron fist of Howe' point seem more weighty to suggest Ashworth also struggled to work with him, but he chose to leave us for Man Utd, rather than being driven out.
It appears nobody can do their job anyway, so perhaps words spread. This is the second dof to run for the trees in a year.
It was reported that ashworth was irritated by a reduced ability to do his job..... Then Mitchell arrives and it's kinda matching up. Would you agree? I smell a rat that's all.... l also heard Nickson is irritated at what's described as a brick wall.. Maybe Mitchell is just useless...unlikely imo.
DOFs imo are extremely overrated. You're telling me a football club needs a head coach, a CEO, a Head Scout and the entire scouting team and then a DOF to make decisions on who to sign? So far since the ownership change we have had: no director of football, Ashworth and then Mitchell and there was no major difference between any of them. So, if Ashworth and Mitchells performance can be comparable to no DOF at all, what the **** is the point of the DOF.
I don't remember that. I did read something from Ashworth saying he worked well with Howe. And then when at Man Utd there were a lot of rumours saying that Ashworth was encouraging the ownership to attempt to appoint Howe before they plumped for Amorim.
I heard both, so there's half the problem. I'm not particularly bothered about Dofs, but there's a reason why clubs moved away from letting former players with coaching badges run football clubs.
I think a problem is when you hire a DOF that is becoming a big name themself, which we have done twice now. I can easily see a suit coming in with a big reputation instantly stepping on the coaching staffs toes.
Newcastle might as well forget Dofs at this point. Howe wanted full control and now he's got it. He might have made a rod for his own back in his thirst for power. It sounds like he picked some of our best players, so probably no reason to expect disaster. Mitchell probably walked in thinking he could swing his cock around and soon realised he was dealing with a very determined individual, that wanted him out of his environment.
Well when you look at it that way. Definately a power struggle between him and Howe and Howe has won.
I wonder if Bournemouth had a DoF when he was there? Seems to me like Howe is a power and control freak. But he’s done well so he probably has the clout right now. Maybe PIF didn’t see enough improvements behind the scenes with Mitchell.
There’s some definite truth in this mate. I also question the need for a DoF when the manager is meant to pull the strings. He can have discussions on players he feels integrates into the team rather than having a middle man who constantly puts a spanner in the works. It’s Eales who should have final say on all aspects anyways but led by the best advisors. Of which one is Howe. I can’t really knock Howe either. He’s done a very good job.
