It's always felt weird to me that they're not affiliated with the men's club, and since the Acun takeover I've had a nagging feeling that there's an opportunity there. Bring them in house, invest a bit of money and try and have some success in the womens' game. I don't know exactly how much money is in the womens' game but it's surely less of a closed shop than the mens' game is these days. Wouldn't there be some easy prestige and exposure for the club and city to have a moderately successful women's team? If we really do have money to spend and are just constrained by FFP, then this one place it could be invested...

 

They don't need to bring them in house tbf as they're nothing to do with the club and have no affiliation. Hull city ladies os owned by Danny ( the one who's been accused ) and Rach Gay ( no sign so far of any wrong doing by her ). It's a very odd set up full stop tbh

 

I know there's no affiliation; that's what we'd be changing by bringing them in house. It would mean buying them and that may or may not be easy, but I'd like to see it happen.

 

Fully agree, I’ve always thought it was poor from the club not to run a women’s team.

The cost is relatively small in comparison and leveraged correctly it’s an asset to sell commercial partnerships given the different demographics it attracts.

I think success at the very top is fast becoming a closed shop, unless you’re prepared to throw huge sums of money at it, but there’s definitely more opportunity for growth than in the men’s game.

Plus it would be great for the next generation of girls in our city to grow up with the aspiration of playing for Hull City.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy the existing team, just remove their rights to use the Hull City name, let them self-destruct and set up a new team, inviting the existing players to come and sign for the new club.

As I understand it, City (along with a few others) were / are interested in talks about ownership and / or investment, but have been unwilling to do so whilst ever Johnson is involved. Now we are finding out why. Also that he wanted absolutely stupid money for the club, either to make a killing or because he wasn't interested in selling I guess. A crying shame as he's clearly held them back, by taking the clubs money that's stalled their progress and being unrealistic in terms of bringing in investment.

It was never about the cost. There was something/someone? in the Ladies set up not quite right and therefore City kept their distance. Don't know what and the problem may have been solved or moved on, but it's a strange one where the ladies clubs use the name but have nothing to do with the club.
Agree with the sentiments about the potential for growth in the woman's game, certainly more then there is in rugby league.

I'm not too sure how it works, but I'm told they're a Limited Company, if that's the case don't they own the name?

 

They have an agreement with Hull City to use the name.

 

I remember they merged with another ladies team at the time Steve Bruce was the manager and insisted all available funding went on the men’s team so they never became an official part of the club.

 

Sounds like a quality individual.

 

I think not might be more than the FA that are speaking to him.
