A counter to this could be we didn't ditch players that got us promoted last time and look what happened.
My shopping list is rather unimaginative, but given SRs penchant for smart arse transfers that turn out to be ****; First Team GK - Still quite rate Viktor Johansson (Stoke), won player of the season at Stoke this season and was player of the season at Rotherham the year prior. He was a real pain when we played Rotherham last time we were in the Championship. First Team CB - I suggested Jimmy Dunne (QPR) who may be going for free, has played alongside Edwards, has a decent amount of Championship experience without being too old. Would compete with Edwards, Wood and Kayi Sanda. Sheffield United look to be after him already. Winger - We may not actually need one for the first team if we have Jay Robinson, Samuel Edozie, Adam Armstrong, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ryan Fraser, Cameron Archer and Ben Brereton Disaster around the place, but I dream of us snapping up Borja Sainz (Norwich). He will be off to bigger and better things though I imagine. First Team Striker - Josh Sargent (Norwich) or Tommy Conway (Middlesbrough)?
All the talk of Man Utd really being in trouble financially with losing the Europa League Final and finishing well down the table this season, with no European football of any kind next season...and the day after the season ends they are apparently buying Cunha for £62.5m. There's really levels to this 'being in trouble financially' thing isn't there
With United…. They have sellable assets…. Weird thing is, players like Antony who couldn’t slap a cows ass with a banjo in the EPL has looked half decent in the Spanish League, so although they won’t recoup the quite frankly insane £80 odd million…. They’ve got a lot of players who they’ll get fees for, looks like Garnacho too. Whereas we can say that no player is off limits and still largely have the same squad Maybe Ramsdale to United on loan…??
Yeah I know they are looking to sell quite a few and will bring in lots of money in sales. Just funny the narrative about them being in trouble financially, for them to be spending big immediately and before selling anyone.
Didn’t people think that about Alcaraz (to be fair - in a different system with a different manager he might have been)
Sargent would be an excellent signing if he could stay fit. But with three years left on his contract, Norwich will presumably want a big fee for him - and as a Championship club, I'm not sure we could justify paying a big fee for someone who only started 28 league games this season, and 24 league games last season. Sainz I do expect to leave Norwich this summer, with only one year left on his contract. But as you say, he's probably looking at bigger than us.
Can’t see anyone paying £50m for Fernandes so hopefully we stick to our guns there and the player doesn’t kick off about it Most surprising thing there is Bednarek to a top half club. But I guess as a reserve choice stepping into a team where the rest of the defence is solid he might look good (although didn’t at Villa…?) No real word on Stephens. Championship is his level but he lost his head this season Assumptions seem to be sugawara is likely to go? Not much of a mention of him in various discussions I see about next season That rumoured midfield would seem to be very good on paper in the championship Need a big clear out really. The big dilemma will be where we have players that could be very helpful in getting us up but not useful at all should be go up. People like Smallbone and Armstrong
THB, Bednarek, ABK, smallbone, Aribo, manning, Sulemana, Ryan Fraser, Onuachu. That’s my get rid list off the top of my head. There’s also a not good enough list that’s nearly as long.
When we went up a major reason was because KWP was just better than everyone else. Massive cheat code. Fernandes is the closest we'll get to that I just think we'd be extremely lucky if he stays. That being said, Charles and Downes are going to give a phenomenal platform for the right player in front of them. I'm excited either way just hope it's not one of those transfers that drags on or gets ugly if he does end up going.
Utd`s issue with sales is problematic due to the inflated wages they are paying, at a much lesser level mirrored by the likes of us. Are they still suggesting much of the cost of a new stadium be covered by government money for "development" ? Self entitled t*ts.
Well, thank god this season is now over. Time to move on, new manager and new players for the season coming. Hope we start early with both out going’s and in coming’s. Need to get rid of the lower expected fee players asap, as the bigger fees like Dibling, Ramsdale, possibly Fernandes always take longer as we will hold out for the best prices. Spors has around 5 weeks before the players come back for pre season training, so would be nice to have a fair few deals done both ways, to able Still to start working with the core of players who will be here next season, as his set up is going to be a big change from what we’ve had the last 2 1/2 seasons. Think he will get them a lot fitter as his style is a lot more physical than what this lot have been used to.
