I was genuinely beginning to feel like I would never see us win another European Trophy in my life time...so for now I'm just enjoying the fact that me and my girls have experienced a great spurs memory together.

On a side note I really hope Maggie B is having great memories of seeing all our previous European victories with her dad

The season that was abysmal yet equally historic.

I usually write a season review with POTY awards but tbh I can't be arsed.

You could count on one hand the number of performances that really impressed.

That EL trophy is a massive, shiny plaster covering over an absolute car crash of a season.

    22 league loses ... a record since the 1930s
Also the most amount a team (in the prem era) has lost without being relegated.
Negative goal difference...1st time in over a decade.
Lost twice to: Arsenal, Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea, Villa, Brighton, Palace, Newcastle and Forest.
Lost at home to 2 relegated teams.
Failed to beat Leicester (relegated), Fulham, Wolves and Bournemouth.

Won our first European trophy in 41 years
And our first trophy in 17 years

    Truly a weird season.

    But ... Burkinshaw...
    season 1 relegated,
Season 2 scraped promotion on last day, season 3 14th losing 5 nil at home to Arsenal and 7 nil at Anfield and taking 3 games to beat a non league team,
    Season 4 finished 11th
Season 5 finished 10th but won FA Cup in a replay (needed an OG to draw the first game)...

Then a great team for 3 seasons.

    Ange
Season 1 5th no cup run
    Season 2 17th EL winners

Had the logic of getting rid of Ange been applied to Burkinshaw our second most successful manager wouldn't have been.

But I get that I'm in the minority and do get the other points of view

I don't think you are in the minority in the wider fans. This is a small group and far from representative.

Do you think the Spurs fanbase overall are more keep Ange than let him go then?

Twitter and the other social media sites seem to be a right mixture.

I am only judging by the responses in the stadium. I don't think not606 is representative of the whole fan base. I do think many Ange out fans have switched because of the Europa cup. I suspect Ange might walk anyway. He was looking at the crowd as we shipped goals in the second half today and I thought he might be thinking do I want more of what I had this season? He doesn't know if he will get the experienced players he needs if he knew for certain I think he'd want to stay, if not go now is the best option.

Reddit is particularly bad for people who have no identifiable personality trait other than being Ange Out

Haven't seen the "Days held hostage" berk since Tuesday, mind...

Nah there are quite a few like us out there..<laugh>

I missed two league games due to holidays so outside of the season tickets I've blown at least another grand on traveling expenses etc. To me that's a massive commitment but as I don't drink anymore or smoke it's the one guilty pleasure I have left!

The season has been a train wreck and I have seen some appalling football at certain points along the way but Wednesday night erased all of that.

Today it's the wife's birthday so we are off to Lisbon for a few days of sun.

So will he go? I can't see him walking, he's a stubborn bugger and he looks on this mess as a challenge...

I'm not sure he sees it as a challenge.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't see it as being his fault. That's pretty clear. It's injuries, too many fixtures, lack of experience and more, but absolutely not his fault.

Just like finishing 2nd didn’t elevate us to 1st the following season

I don’t think finishing 17th will demote us to 18th next season

If only it were so simple.

History will show that it is much, much harder to move from 2nd to 1st in the PL. Just ask Liverpool or Arsenal.

17th to 18th on the other hand is extremely common. Just ask Leeds, Sunderland, Swansea, Burnley, Watford, Norwich, Cardiff and Hull.

Our saving grace in terms of potential relegation is that the gap between the Prem and Champ is widening. I don’t think it’s a coincidence the last two seasons have seen all three promoted sides go straight back down and to be honest looking at those coming up for next season, I wouldn’t be surprised if at least two go straight back down again.

Ultimately though this side in terms of quality is nowhere near relegation calibre, I’d say it’s probably the 4th/ 5th best side in the Prem. It was just horrifically managed this season.

I think we will but I can't see us finishing higher than lower mid table and also can't see us winning a trophy.

In terms of ability and squad depth, certainly top 6 on any objective assessment. But it seemed as though the attitude and commitment dropped off significantly and then, with nothing to play for in the PL, the players focused their energies on the EL and just stopped bothering in the league, as evidenced by the results. If that was the case, I’m not sure how Ange suddenly makes them top 4 contenders when there is the extra burden of a CL campaign too.

Absolutely. it’s definitely a complete split, and for so many different reasons. And opinions have definitely changed since the Europa win.

    Some have always backed him.
Others have wanted him out for months and months.
Some now want to keep him as he won a trophy.
Others can’t get over 22 league defeats, regardless of the trophy.
    And so on…

I hate the idea of changing the manager again, and that was my original stance until about Jan/feb. But a lot of that was due to the injury problems we had, hoping we’d turn things around. - (as well as my dislike for Levy and much of his footballing decisions.)

But we’ve looked terrible against PL opposition in recent months. Is that because we turned our attention to the EL? Quite possibly. But if that’s the case, our PL performances have been quite unprofessional if so, because the effort between the two competitions has been vast.

Where I’m torn on this, is that I think we’ll be having the same conversation 5-10 games into the new season, should we keep him. IMO that’s the worst possible scenario.

The excitement of winning a trophy at long last has been very welcome, but at the same time, the 22 league defeats are frightening.

I’ve not seen any improvement in our play over the Ange’s time in charge, other than us adapting to be much more defensive. - one end of the spectrum to the other. if we have to play like that to grind out results, then I’d be a hypocrite if I was to say I was ok with it, especially after my comments about Mourinho and Conte.

anyway, here’s hoping if Ange remains in charge he can deliver, just like he did with his comments about winning something in his second season.

    I hope I’m proven wrong.
