I don't know if using the ignore function is just the best way to deal with posters who get on your wick too much. The matchday threads can get negative when we are playing badly and they can wind me up - it's bad enough that we are playing badly! Prehab and LD19SAFC are very vocal and the persistently negative comments do get to me sometimes. They also sometimes make very good points and add to the breadth of views.

I don't like the censorship of honest discussion but also feel very sad that good posters are put off the forum and leave. Two solutions for the same problem - strategic use of the ignore function and mindfulness about not being over the top with negativity.

So just to clear it up!

If the team or just a particular player are playing are playing poorly, being outplayed or just not at it should people:

    A: say nowt,
    B: be positive or
C: start a new thread to talk about it!

Surely this should be a place to say ****ing hell this isn't looking good Etc...?

If they attend match shouting player x you're ****ing ****e, then fair enough that will do more harm than good but writing it on a forum for others to discuss shouldn't be the problem it's being made into!

Unless I'm completely missing the point or the level of negativity that others are seeing?

I can understand if people don’t like negative comments. It’s fine I get it

I don’t think it’s fair to tell people they should go post somewhere else because they don’t want to see it. Views should be allowed no matter if it’s positive or negative

I know for certain at half time in the ground I was complaining, I was upset, I was worried, I was annoyed. I love Sunderland and wanted us to do it.

people posting it on here is the exact same feeling and at full time those posters and myself in the ground were delighted.

    that’s football that’s life.

You are absolutely spot on mate. You don’t even need to use the ignore function, that’s extra help, just add your post or ignore theirs if you don’t like it.

Everyone has different views and that’s what a forum is for, it’s what social media for, heck it’s what conversation is for.

worry and doubt and negativity are attributes to a game of football, especially of this magnitude, when your love is getting beat.

I have no problem with people expressing their opinions. The trouble starts when the opinions are not well constructed or well thought out. In game opinions are fine in the moment but in truth can age badly after the game has finished.
I re watched the full game yesterday and we were not as bad first half as it appeared in real time, I think most just seen the couple of good chances SU created and formed opinion around that.
The only area where we were vulnerable was at the back, and this was probably due to LON injury and the reshaping of our defensive unit.
Rigg was by no means poor he was just been asked to play more defensively. They played a lot of high balls into Moore and tried to cause as much disruption as possible with that tactic, which is why their goal was surprising to us. It was one of the only times they attacked with the ball on the floor.
I understand the slow play comments and to be honest agree somewhat, but the negative post really show no context as to why. LON going off had a big impact for the first 20 to 30 mins of that game. But even before they scored we had started to take control in midfield and we were shaping up very well to their main tactic.
Non of this was discussed by the posters which would have given some context to what happened during the first half.
That said sometimes an initial reaction is the best reaction and at least at the time of posting is a real and somewhat raw feeling of what they are watching, me personally I like to rewatch and sort out my thoughts, and in truth do not really think about posting during a game as my concentration and emotions would probably make it all sound like gobbledegook anyway.

it’s all about the fast fire repetition, slagging a specific player or going overboard on the opponent’s players.
I got back late Saturday night after going to Trafalgar Square - which was the centre of police guard duty. OK officer I might have had a few drinks after my team had won at Wembley.<cheers>
I started reading through the match thread and usually I don’t mind the one or two negatives but some specifically said that they were at the game and I pulled them both up for some of their pre-equaliser comments.
Then I just started posting all the videos that I was watching at the time
I really hope that activity did not derail the thread <laugh><laugh>

What is ****ing grim, is when so called fans target a player, go silent when they have good game and are straight in with ‘I told you so’ soon as they put a foot wrong.

Post usually start with ‘I’m sorry but….’

Been Paddy this season, the man with the most assists in the team.

That’s ****ing vile and I’ve gone toe to toe probably 20 plus times with lads doing it at games. Usually lads who’s faces you don’t recognise who have to look at the signs to find a seat, but not always.

If any of them had a **** day at work and their gaffer or workmates ****ing screamed and slagged them off there and then be straight to HR no doubt.

Ayway, enough of this talk. 95, Tommy scored.

Posted earlier in the season I'd love to see Luke O'Nien go up with us.
Was gutted to see him get injured at the start, and after thinking all season, (well even before the season started), that we'd get promoted. I suddenly thought, here we go,
    The Sunderland bad luck.

But the team. The players, Regis, everything came together.
    Fooking brilliant.
    Magical.
    This tops everything for me.
    Right up there.
Peter Reid with Quinny and Phillips.
Great owner, great manager. Great players. Just fooking wonderful.

I'm going to tell anyone who posts negatively about us next season to fook off :emoticon-0148-yes: <laugh>

Not having a dig as I respect you as a poster and what you do for fans with tickets etc. but I'm slightly confused by this post... Are you saying people shouldn't be allowed to post their opinion in the match thread if it isn't 100% positive? There's probably going to be some pretty dead matchday threads next year if that's the case, ha

No, that's nothing like what I'm saying, I couldn't have made it much clearer tbf ...

... neither could RTB who spends a considerable amount of time creating them.

He's said there won't be any more of these match threads, at this rate, which would be a shame as they're better than any of the posts that follow. It's easy enough to read what's actually been said without guessing and it's not just me saying it.

Wasn't there lots of ex-Sunderland people at Wembley, great to see.

I didn't see many ex-Sheffield and there were plenty of spare seats for them <laugh>

That was totally embarrassing for the club and the fans. Richest prize money in football on the line and they can’t sell their seats. Some the EFL and Wembley need to think about. I know to an extent they don’t want opposing fans next to each other but them seats could have been bought by the fans at the opposite end of the:)

Watched this as thought it may give a bit perspective as to how the game was viewed across Europe (most of it is in another language).
Still seems to give a great account of the fans reactions and for me the best bit about it is the young lad they keep showing who is singing and screaming at the top of his voice.
He is there with his brother and his young niece and the video when we score (around 43 mins in) and he is in tears and his little niece starts wiping away the tears is a very touching tribute to all of the emotions of the day.

It's 5.45 am I'm sat in bed watching this with the sound off as I can't sleep and the bit round our winner and final whistle is tremendous.
Another one to add to the list when I get home.
    Thanks for posting it.

100%. Shame but it's spot on. Me and my mates were bricking it at half time and thought the game was going to be a struggle, we were very thankful of VAR.

All good though but strange to watch as others have said they disappeared due to this censorship but a group of posters.

Anyway. Let's get back to the videos and scenes post match!

I suppose because it’s RTB’s post and he’s politely asking you not to.
If you really want to by all means start your own. I can guarantee people who post positive stuff won’t come on and derail it.<ok>

Put me on ignore then and stop trying to dictate what people can and can't say

People are also moaning that they can't have their say because people will just moan if they say anything negative

When I left for a bit you even tagged me in saying I left because of negative posters, I didn't I got annoyed because people were being told what they can and can't post

So match day threads are for positive comments only, noted

I'll not comment on match day threads going forward then if it's not a place for proper debates and discussions about Sunderland games and what we are all seeing
