Yeah, but if you’ve been following this story you’ll know these allegations go way beyond “fog of war” atrocities; there appears to have been a deliberate culture of competitive brutality, and systematic murder of unarmed captives, among certain units. War almost certainly does attract and create psychopathic personalities, but officers and NCOs actively encouraging psychopathic behaviour is another thing. That’s the sort of thing that’s been alleged anyway.
my view is that always more likely in "special forces" due to the selection / training policy and the fact they operate in the shadows . my comment about all wars have atrocities are some seem to think was is some sort of clean rule based game rather than the grim bloody thing it actually is .
Which is exactly why the Geneva Cinvention came into being ... and 'civilised' countries signed up to it ... not because war isn't grim and bloody ... but because some things are 'by definition' barbaric and beyond that ... let's call them 'War Crimes' perhaps? ...
9 times out of 10, special forces can’t be taking prisoners with them. Logistically it’s impossible with how quickly and secretively they move about. If they leave some people who they’ve come into contact with that could jeopardise their mission/location putting them and their colleagues at risk, then that person is better off dead to them. It’s brutal but I guess that’s just the way it is for them and I understand it. As you say, every side at war does this, in every war that is fought. Comments about the Geneva convention is for the fairies.
I'll be honest, when I saw previous soldiers get into trouble for finishing off gravely injured members of ISIS or the Taliban, I clocked out of this special forces war crimes bollocks. People disconnected from reality complaining about **** they don't get
There's a huge difference between finishing off an animal you've run over in your car because the injuries it has sustained means it is certain to die in considerable pain and seeking out that animal and toturing it for hours until it dies .. Also rather amusing what the X-Box special forces on here accuse the more rational and humanitarian posters of 'not understanding'
Terrible what happened in Liverpool yesterday. Jumped out at me a few times in the reporting, did anyone else notice how frequently and prominently it has been mentioned that the suspect is 'white British'? Clearly an early intervention to stop the likes of Thomas Robinson from spreading false rumours.
Would all of the above apply to what Hamas did on October 7th then? - elite or 'special' forces doing whatever it takes to protect themselves on a covert 'mission' in enemy territory in their 'war' against Israel... Course it ****ing wouldn't - every one of them that killed or injured a civilian, and those that orchestrated it, should be tried for War Crimes under the Fairy Convention - because sane people put that in place for just that purpose ... I realise that this will be countered with 'they are terrorists not special forces' ... but a label doesn't change acts of terrorism just because of who is perpetrating them ...
