We are still waiting on that big one off game between Villa and Bournemouth after the goal line technology mysteriously stopped working a few years ago to keep them up.
The thing for me in this game was we had to go with a full 4-3-3 press, which we clearly didn't do. We were pedestrian, ploddy, we didn't look comfortable and when you add in the awful games had by at least half the team - specifically Barnes, Gordon, Isak, Burn - it was just poor all round. Obvs we caveat with "best season ever"! But in isolation this game was a too familiar sight this season. Feels very much to me like we went to this formation because Howe didn't want to drop Burn for Botman. It's these decisions that need to be improved, Howe just needs to get a bit tougher. I don't think Botman needed to come off, but Burn probably did. Barnes shouldn't be at the club, but if he is playing he needs to be on the left. We've got ourselves into Europe by GD - that GD is so good because Isak, Murphy and Gordon were doing really well, so why you'd disrupt that purely because you want to play Burn is odd. I understand Joelinton being out is an issue, but LCM is Willock's position (not LW) so surely it would've made sense to give him, or Miley, a run.
Problem for me was we didn’t need to switch up the formation to get the best XI on the pitch and could have easily stuck with 433 but the staff as a whole ****ed up trying to be clever.
I think that yesterday: 1) Gordon had a mare. 2) playing Murphy at wing-back destroyed his game. 3) Isak wasn't fit. 4) Barnes ONLY place should be left wing - we've got enough evidence now.
They definitely got done mate. If they get that goal they would have parked the bus and rolled around for 15 mins. That's why it's funny because if they get that goal we'd have missed out more than likely.
Mate they should have been 3-0 down before Martinez got sent off. But I agree the manner is very fitting from a club who mocked us for going down, then survived when they shouldn’t have. Their karma has been a long time coming.
Everyone keeps saying how they want refs to make decisions themselves instead of relying on VAR. Then when that happens, there's nothing but complaints that he didn't wait. All about what makes headlines / suits.
It doesn't matter they should have been up 1-0 with 15 to go. That's why it's funny. **** them, but they definitely got shafted Yesterday.
I've got a soft spot for Villa, and Gabby A. They got well done on Sunday and done hard. I'm going be depressed all summer due to that. Oh yes, I'm sobbing like a baby for the poor sods. It was entertaining seeing Emmery jump around like he was being electrocuted after their chalked off goal mind.
Villa fans might be complaining now, but if they dont have a european trophy this time next season i'll be very surprised.
