I’m genuinely optimistic about our future with the young talent we have emerging, as long as we can hold on to them. We can’t expect to bounce back immediately as a) they will need time to gel, and b) I’m guessing we’ll start with a points disadvantage which will make it all the more difficult to get promoted. Do we think Top is ruthless enough to clear the decks at board level and bring in a brand new team behind the scenes? He dallied too long before sacking Rodgers which is where the trouble began, how we got relegated with that squad is ridiculous, Rodgers complacency cost us. Do we need wholesale changes at board level or just two or three people being moved on? Ruud’s position is a hard one to call. I’m not convinced with him but he can argue he walked into a sh!t storm and wasn’t backed in any way. Sacking him won’t help the PSR situation and he would he be in a better position starting the new season than a new manager as he already knows the strengths and weaknesses of most of the squad. It’s certainly going to be an interesting season next year.
Looking back I'm not sure it was Rodgers complacency as much as his hands being tied - he wanted to make Lookman's loan a permanent but was denied the (modest) funds ... that could have been the difference to relegation ...
I was on the fence about the sacking of RVN until yesterday! But playing Daka for 70+ mins, who like always did F all says it all! Daka as to be moved on, don't think that there would be a rush from other clubs to sign him, we might have to do a Starmer and give him away and pay his wages but just get rid!
Gonna disagree with you on this one Jamba - will be plenty of European interest for Daka - his wages may be a stumbling block mind ...
Rodger’s downfall was to keep on playing Tielemans when he couldn’t be bothered, and leaving Soyuncu out of the team altogether over some minor issue compared to a relegation battle. I think Lookman could have been snapped up for £14m if memory serves me right, pretty much what we paid for Vestegaard!
The Daka situation is a strange one. As I recall he had a pretty good scoring record at club and country level before he came here, and there were articles around at the time saying we had bagged a gem. in his first season he even scored 4 goals in one European game for us if I remember rightly. Good players don't suddenly turn into bad ones overnight without a good reason. Was he overrated in the first place or was it down to the fact that he was competing with Vardy as the number one striker and didn't get game time in his preferred position? If a player doesn't get game time then match fitness, timing and confidence go straight out the window, and for a striker those 3 things are his biggest asset. When he has got game time lately it has been as a winger while Vardy has remained the main striker, and that is not his position. At the moment he plays as if he is totally devoid of confidence and I genuinely feel for the guy. Whether he can stay and, over the close season, regain that form that he showed when he first arrived might pay off unless we have an unproven lad from the academy who they think can do better.
One of ours could be off to Wrexham... and it's not Jamie Vardy... Danny Ward - makes sense ... ...plus, should mean 6 points next season
There was an article recently, alternative PL awards. The opposite of the golden glove, keepers who conceded when they shouldn't have. Ward was 2nd on the list of the worst, despite playing one game. FFS!
... he's not the worst keeper I've seen - but Stolarcyk is way better ... and the reason that I think we should probably cash in on Hermandsen...
