I was with a lad at Wembley and that game, it was horrendous and triggered the first big decision from KLD. I was at the Argyll with another lad who I went to the 2-1 defeat to Cheltenham with, they deserved to win as did Bolton. Both of them would've been thinking about those games yesterday ... ... what a transformation KLD has made to the club, from top to bottom.
some of our recent past performances make most us Sunderland fans become like Vietnam Vets.....keep getting flash backs... But all worth while now
Yep. A mind boggling change and really, in hardly any time at all. We could have been slumping around the bottom of the Championship and going up and down from League One for years. We could have withered away. Leeds and Forest spent about twenty years outside the top flight. Leeds still do not own their training ground, which they had to sell for cash.
I said it on another thread but with everything the club has in place now, I honestly believe that SAFC are on the cusp of something special.
Looking back on some L1 results, it’s Incredible to see us in the PL. the same season we lost 6-0 to Bolton we lost 4-0 to Pompey and 5-1 to Rotherham.. that’s over 3 years ago.., what KLD and KS have done is movie worthy stuff
That drubbing at Bolton should go down in history as much as the 2 Wembley wins. It blew KLD into life and started it all.
We were well placed but in horrific form. Joint top but we were in a rut and didn’t look like snapping out of it. Was a ballsy decision at the time and here we are, Premier League.
I think we were 3rd when he was sacked but both Rotherham and Wigan had games in hand. We were in awful form and also lost 3 cup games to lower league teams or something. But I also remember Johnson travelled alone to the Bolton match. We conceded 5 against Rotherham too, lost 0-3 away to Wednesday and lost 3-1 at home to Lincoln thanks to a hat trick from Burger King But **** all that because it makes weekends like this all the better. I go from utter desperation to pure delight with this club but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My heart and blood pressure say different mind, but I’ve ignored them for long enough now.
Was there with my son. A shocking performance but it turned out to be a good day after finally getting rid of that idiot Johnson
