One of the few arguments I can come up with for keeping Ange is Levy's capacity to somehow appoint someone even worse.

    Farioli is reportedly Paratici's pick

Hopefully we tell him to stick to players first and foremost once he gets back...

    Ange was right

this club needs a trophy more than it needs another 5th place finish

im shocked some fans prefer being constant nearly men in the league and can’t wait to return to that status

I don’t mind waiting for a bit and sacrificing that amazing feeling of hoping Wolves can muster a draw at Newcastle on the final day for us to finish 5th for one season.

The right thing for our league campaign is to replace him, I’ve never said otherwise but you seem desperate to poo poo our triumph even more so than some oppo fans, (other than Piskie of course)

you’re even blaming us for the rule changes it seems that saw the CL failures not given another chance for glory in the Europa <laugh>

I dont give a **** about next season

im enjoying getting this silver back gorilla off our backs

I will start my complaints afresh for next season as and when the reasons appear

I didn't intend to come across like that, apologies.

I'm only highlighting the change in EL format to draw attention to the fact that the only teams we faced who would be at home in the PL were Gala, Roma and Frankfurt. We only won once in four games against those.

I'm also delighted to get this duck off our back, but I do care about next season simply because all we've shown this season is that we are capable of beating awful teams and even then, we largely have to resort to awful football to do so.

I probably should just enjoy the moment for longer but I am seriously worried about next season.

    You should.

Once you get old you realise looking that far forward is never a wise thing, all I see is my impending demise!!

Anway I am still celebrating the moment, and will continue to do so until the season kicks off again. Enjoying that final with my lad was priceless... :emoticon-0152-heart

Ange has had 2 full seasons as coach...and yes, we finally won a trophy!! A proper trophy, but...

..."how much progress has been made?" renders a less auspicious response.

As far as how we set up to win another trophy, I'd argue none at all. If we play 'Angeball', we'll finish mid-table, almost certainly outside the European places. If we play 'Angewall' we will need markedly better forwards, or we're not going to take advantage of a sufficient percentage of turnovers.

So, in 2 years, we've played 2 diametrically opposite styles of play, neither of which is likely to bring us a sufficient prospect of ongoing success.

Forget everything else. In 2 years, that's not good enough for me. He deserves our thanks for what he did, but if the club can find someone who fits our needs better, it's time to change.

I do not think you should keep a manager just to reward him for what he has done. You thank him and maybe give him an additional bonus but you need to think about what the club needs in deciding who should manage going forward.

The worst thing for me is to change the manager a short while into the season. Decide now your priorities for next season and who can do it. I see no chance of Ange being capable of getting us back into the top six let alone four. So if all you want is a cup and hang the League you could stay with him. However if we win a cup, realistically it will not be another European one – so are we desperate to win the FA or League Cup? We came bottom of all last year’s Premier League clubs – so if just one of the promoted teams does better than last year we would be relegated unless we improve our league performance.

Is our ambition to be satisfied with a manager who can only focus on one thing?

I would say to him thanks but no thanks and pay him off.

I still see two things as key in this decision.
Firstly and most importantly, I don't think that Postecoglou's system is sustainable.
The Premier League is a tough, demanding competition and pairing it with Europe is too much.
He basically admitted that he abandoned one for a chance to win the other.
That gamble paid off, but we can all see the cost of it in our league form.

The secondary point is that our squad doesn't suit his style of play.
We'd have to massively overhaul it in order for it to do so and I still don't think it'd work.
We could have two teams of perfectly suited players and the injury list would destroy it.
It's clearly not a coincidence and it's impossible to avoid.

Postecoglou should always be welcome at the Lane, but it's time to part ways.
Perhaps a return to Celtic could be on the cards if Rodgers does a bunk?

The main issue this season (hey, can still say it, the CL final hasn't happened) is Ange went for all competitions, even though all we had to do was look at Norbert gunning for all trophies and coming up short in all of them last season to realise this was a bad idea

This coming season we definitely need to be willing to treat the Season Killer Cup as a competition for giving early season minutes to longterm prospects and blooding some youngsters and if that means we get knocked out after a round or two then we get knocked out after a round or two, but we got some first team minutes into the legs of Vuskovic, Yang, (Bardghji?), Williams-Barnett, Feeney or whoever else

We're not the only team that this applies to, but we need enough depth to pick two good teams.
I don't actually think that we're that far off it, somewhat bizarrely, but the balance is wrong.
There has to be enough depth to handle some injuries, yet leave space for youth.

In some ways we've managed some of that by accident

Maddison getting crocked meant we got to give Bergvall more games, which had the knock-on effect that we often used a pair of natural 8s in the system as Bentancur was usually partnering him, so we had a degree more midfield control entirely because we didn't have a natural 10 playing a far deeper role

Agree, unless he changes his approach and style massively then Spurs will struggle even mid next season.

When Brendon went back to Celtic he said he would definitely see out his contract and that doesn’t end until next summer, so Ange definitely wouldn’t get the Celtic gig again until then at the earliest. There’s even been talk of him extending this summer.

There's the question of depth and then there is the question of pragmatism.

We have a relatively deep squad compared to most PL teams and certainly a large number who finished comfortably above us.

Injuries weren't the only issue, more pressing was Ange's insistence to play exactly the same style with what was essentially our second team.

Asking Forster to pass it out from the back and Dragusin/Davies/Gray to play a high line was the stuff of madness.

The other two were not sacked whereas people want rid of the one who won a trophy and got to a cup semi-final in the same season.

I’m actually thinking to keep him now. Partly because of the relationship he has with players, partly because of the trophy win and partly because it would mean less upheaval which I think none of us want.

The club need to sign some good experienced players (4-5) this summer though. If it’s a couple of kids with potential and 1-2 average players then it’s setting them up to fail in the league and champions league.
