I don’t know about goal difference, but we broke the record for most games lost in a 20 team PL season (we lost 78.9% of league games or 30/38).
Nicked from Saintsweb: RECORD CONFIRMED: Relegated with the most remaining games left (7) Most defeats in a season: 30 Biggest margin between a relegated team and survival: 26 Fewest home points in a season: 6 JOINT RECORD CONFIRMED: Lowest 'top scorer': 4 (Paul Onuachu 4) Most away defeats in a season: 15 Most home defeats in a season: 15 Fewest home wins in a season: 1 CLOSE BUT NOT QUITE S*** ENOUGH: Fewest points in a season: 11 (12) Worst home goal difference in a season: −38 (-34)
I’ll give Tall Paul his dues, he’s our top scorer and must have played what? A quarter of game time this season? Id actually back him to do quite well in the Champ but I think he’ll be off, or benched in favour of Stewart if we don’t bring a new striker in (which I very much hope we do).
I thought today was slightly surreal. Alot of fringe players getting an outing and proving themselves no worse than the regulars. Taylor ,Wood and Robinson all bode well for next season. Sulemana has the makings of a great player but just needs to be coached by Dave Merrington. Thought he olsyed well today. Fernandes was class and just hope we sign Chucky from Chelsea. Ramsdale was excellent in goal too. I think this was out best home performance this season. Not really impressed with Archer, Tall Paul or Stewart. We need completely new front line. Pleased Stewart got his goal but hope his next is not in a Saints shirt. The highlight of this afternoon was taking a short cut through Nichols Town before the game and seeing Kim Jung Un drive past in his BMW. He is bigger in real life....no doubt due to eating all that cheese. I note that he did not sit next to Rishi.
I think there is one positive from today that has so far been overlooked and that is our makeshift defence weren’t put to the sword by an equally makeshift Arsenal team, although it has to be said that their makeshift players are vastly better than our first choices. Defensively we should be able to be competitive next season even if Bedders and THB go.
Stewart was our best outfield player after Fernandes. Really good centre forward play. Probably the best we've seen all season imo. Sulemana was his usual self. Runs fast but his brain is about ten seconds behind his feet.
Don’t think we can really read much into today. Neither team had anything to play for so any good performances need to be taken with that in mind. Nothing from today’s game would change my opinion on players either way tbh. I reckon it’s the last we’ve seen a fair few of them though
I’m surprised so many have been positive about today’s performance. Arsenals second string were barely in first gear. Sure we did okay, and competed for the most part, but that was far more down to Arsenal than us imo. The bar for what constitutes a good performance this season is so very low. Anyway, just pleased to see the back of this horrific season.
Yeah. A couple of toe pokes doesn't make up for the fact that his presence is completely detrimental to the rest of the team. He lumbers around putting no pressure at all on the opposition defence, and they just pass it round him.
Yeah sadly I agree. Even his comedic value has worn off. Best of luck to the guy but if multiple managers won't give you a run there's a reason for it. We could argue all day that with a new manager and/or style of play fringe players could do a job for us in the Championship but we're honestly better off completely tearing it up and starting again. I got the feeling TP was at least trying though.
Very Bizarre to see the police surround and defend the centre circle at full time. Good effort from the team today, even if it was a half arsed Arsenal. Impressive from Robinson, looks very good technically and great power in that left foot, shame his strike was a good height for the keeper.
I was asked this evening to name the three players who I'd most like to see depart this summer, in an ideal world. If it was totally up to me, and we were able to retain whoever we want. Paul was immediately my first answer.
An interesting thought. Id probably go Smallbone, Fraser and not really sure on the third. Onuachu would be in with a good shout
It's one of those questions where you could ask 10 different people, and get 10 different answers. Bazunu was my second pick. And I just went Bree for third, though I was very tempted with Stephens. But there's a large pool to pick from, including the two you've named.
Aribo would probably be in my three. Fraser wouldn't be near it. Decent squad option to have around next season imo
Yeah I thought Bree as an option. As you say there’s probably only about 10 players who I’d be surprised if anyone included in their 3. Which when your squad is like 30 players is tragic
