Alternatively, we’ve stroked the ball around nicely until the 18 yard box, we’ve posed no threat to West Ham and we look vulnerable at the other end.
He wasn't great in his audition for Tuchel last time out. I don;t mind, he won't come back injured, unless he gets a bit wild on his Vegas honeymoon.
Please get rid of Davis, Morsy, Taylor and Chaplin.....way off the pace, I'm not keen on Tuenzebe either tbh!!
Thank **** that season is over. Good luck next year lads, hope you make it back, and a little stronger next time.
Another poor performance and we end our Premier League season with only one home win (no home wins in 2025!). If there were any positives, I thought Broadhead had a really good game. Definitely a player who should be in first team contention next season - if we can keep hold of him. I also thought Jack Clarke had a positive game, possibly his best for us. In terms of negatives, pretty much everyone else on that pitch. Davis had another poor game. I’m reluctant to see him go, as I think he’ll be great in a promotion chasing team. We know how effective his set pieces and attacking play can be in the Championship. But he’s been the biggest disappointment of the season. Walton too suspect in goal and defensively we just didn’t handle West Ham. Morsy in particular far too slow for the opener and looks like he’s massively struggled fitness-wise in the second half of the season. Possibly too much to expect a win to close the season, but this season has showed just how far off we are from Premier League standard. Sell a few players who want to go, clear the deadwood, and target quality over quantity in the summer with half on eye on players who can make the Premier League step up. I’m sure the board and McKenna will be ambitious - we can’t have this season as the limit of our success.
We huffed and puffed as usual but we're nowhere near West Ham in terms of passing and movement, ball retention and athleticism.Just shows the gulf in quality of squads given how poorly they have been regarded this Season.
We started the game with 5 players who played in league 1 for us that's half a team, we also brought on 2 players from our league1 days as subs making 7 third tier players in the match, now I know there's injuries and illness in the camp but to expect these players to compete with seasoned Prem players is downright absurd as has been demonstrated all season. They give 100% but it's not enough to close the gulf in quality as borne out by our relegation, I know we were caught out by our unexpected promotion last season and weren't able to assemble a quality squad in the time available and stay within the financial fair play rules, but if lessons have bee truly learned
Sorry malfunction, if lessons have been learned we cannot go into next season as Unprepared as we were this season.
I thought that performance pretty much summed up where we are. In terms of general play I thought we were pretty good but we just simply arent good enough to compete at this level. Patterns of play much better and we particularly first half looked the more dominant team. I thought the interplay between the whole team was much better, without Delap, Clarke and Enciso we moved the ball much quicker and again a lot more room with Hirst up top for the players behind him with Broadhead and Chaplin picking up some really good pockets of space and whilst both had some decent moments they also looked a bit rusty. I thought again Hutchinson looked so much better down the right and both he and Davis were able to get into decent positions today but lacked the quality with the final ball. Which on Davis behalf is really disappointing because he hasn't been able to get in those positions as much this season and when he has for me he usually delivered a good ball the issue has been players not taking up good positions to get on the end of them. Really poor 1st goal to give away but it really annoys me this narrative from commentators that giving away goals like that is typical of our season. Given the number of goals we've conceded this season not many have actually been down to passing it around at the back. The quality of what happened next though was top notch and the next 2 West Ham goals were superb as was Broadheads to be fair (loved Hirsts run to pull the central defender out of the way...he's brilliant at that). I also thought for the first time all season Greaves and O'Shea looked like they had built a connection and in particular their passing out from the back was better than I've seen from them all season, I also thought Waltons distribution was pretty much spot on. He may not be the best with his feet but his decision making in knowing when to hold and when to release is pretty spot on. And this brings me to some reflections of the squad this season which I think really shone out in the team today....the players who came up with us through the leagues positional play, connections with each other and decision making is on the whole pretty good but they're generally not good enough at this level in terms of physicality and technical ability, they're not quick enough and touch not good enough for this level. The players we've brought in I think can cope with those physical and technical parts of the PL but we've generally bought potential and their positional play and decision making hasn't been good enough. Unfortunately that blend of players has meant we just are not good enough at this level.
Taylor yes, Chaplin possibly. Davis, Morsy & Axel definitely not. Davis hasn’t had a great season but I haven’t forgotten he was a fantastic player in the championship which is where we are playing next season. Morsy may not be able to play every game next season but great character to have round the place. Axel for me is our best right back by a distance (Johnson & h Clarke the other options) it’s been a difficult and disappointing season but don’t think we should be throwing the baby out with the bath water. Don’t think we need that many signings in the summer - 2 midfielders and a striker, rest is dependent on who else we lose. Pleased the season is done with and looking forward to winning some games next season
Royston, I think all our right backs are **** tbh, Johnson the worst of a bad bunch!! We need to build for a premier push but also build a squad capable of staying up and Morsy is not good enough I'm afraid, good enough for the championship but not next step up, too old and slow imo!! Leif looks absolutely **** to bits, even his corners, crosses and free kicks are poor, he has been exposed big time this season and CT is a far steadier LB. I think the likes of Clarke, Johnson, harness, Judge at should all be terminated or at least their contracts!!
