Why is it strange? He's one of our hardest workers, gets forward and stays back and is good mates with Colo so can carry on his captaincy style in his absence better than anybody else.

    Thought Shola would be.

  6. Surprised it's not Shola, But Jonas is mature. He's 28, he's got a great mentality and hard working.

This here. Shola may be local and the longest club servant on the pitch today but he doesn't strike me as the sort of guy who would fill the team with urgency to put in effort when we're on the back foot at all. How often do most of us complain that Shola looks lazy and should put in more effort? I could do without that sort of ethic spreading to the rest of the team.

jonas is also nailed on to play 90 mins whereas shola will be sacrificed if things aren't going our way

True. And it lets Shola concentrate on his job of trying to score <ok>

But when has Jonas ever captained before. Shola has captained us on multiple occasions. Simmo has even captained us before I think.

Jonas will have to forego his superstition of being last man out of the tunnel :/

It strikes me as far more strange that Simpson has captained us than the idea of Jonas doing it today. I think Jonas is captain material and regardless of whether or not he has done it before it doesn't make it strange to me that he has been picked over Shola.
Plus, as somebody else said - we're probably going to be subbing off Shola for HBA in the 2nd half and Pardew wants the same captain all match to prevent more changes in an already makeshift lineup.

Don't particularly like having goalkeepers as captains, dont even know why. Jonas will make a decent captain for me, he'll lead by example and everyone can feed off the work that he puts in.

This may be a small point..but why has Pardew felt the need to move Raylor to Right Back? He has been used to being LB all season, so why change it? Santon knows how to play right back. Pardew even brought him on at RB vs Spurs.

Seems like I hammer Pardew, but these little things he does or doesn't do, just dont make enough sense to me.

The match hasn't even started yet. If Santon and Raylor both play terrible in their positions today then by all means question his judgement. The answer to your question right now is: None of us know.

Perhaps because he's noticed that Raylor has been sub-par these last few games and is hoping to drop him once Coloccini's fit again?
