No not Scott Parker, I thought there was a Championship team that managed promotion and sacked their coach for someone else before preseason even started
Don't think it's happened in any of the English leagues (yet), but it has happened in Germany. Jorn Anderson got Mainz promoted in 2008/9 season in his first season in charge, when the team finished 2nd in the Bundesliga 2. He was sacked 6 days prior to the commencement of the 2009/10 Bundesliga season, and replaced by Thomas Tuchel , who remained in charge until 2014, when he replaced Jürgen Klopp at Dortmund.
aha sorry for the misspelling etc Norway, I was going from memory. I'd read it earlier whilst I was out and then once I got home I replied to Ristac question
The name probably gives away my take on your manager, with us he spent around a million as we went into the Premiership. McKenna spent £100m at Ipswich to achieve no more pointswise. Good luck in 25/6.
Leeds have made an offer to Junior Firpo that they are hoping is too good for him to turn down, Daniel Farke sees him as an important player for next season This leaves me very concerned, we have seen Firpo in the PL and it isn't pretty, it scares me as I feel Farke is going to under estimate the gulf between divisions. Yes keep Firpo as a squad player but not break the bank to keep him
If we have to buy someone to fill the gap that’s created by his exit it makes some sense to try to retain him. I suppose it depends on how DF sees it, squad and system wise. He was a car crash defensively last time we were there. Was that a system thing?. I don’t have confidence in him defensively, at that level, but if he stays I hope he proves me wrong.
I think after his experiences there it would be a surprise if Farke underestimated the gulf. I think all of us watched Firpo in the PL in a state of terror, to answer Rover's point i don't think any of our recent manager's systems - Bielsa, Marsh or Farke make life easy for defenders. High line and vulnerable in transition if the press fails. So whilst i think he was hung out to dry to some extent i'm sure how it will be any different this time... what you hope to have in these circumstances is defenders with pace and good defensive instincts. I love junior's attacking play, but i've never seen much sign he has either of those requirements. This year he barely had to demonstrate any defensive attributes and that's the worry really.
He reminded me of Leif Davies for Ipswich, their fans were adamant he was good enough for the PL and would play for England. They felt I was being jealous when I said he would be torn to shreds defensively, not a single Ipswich fan now feels he is good enough for the PL Firpo will be a rinse and repeat of that, I'm happy for him to be a squad player, he should not be first choice
In truth, should we be that surprised about Junior’s defensive frailties as he started out up top and still plays there for Dom Republic.
where’s doc when you need him to quote Bielsa ‘very good Davis ’ and get incandescent that we gave him away
My personal favourite was @Whitejock stating that Robbie Gotts was the next Bremner. @Doc stated Davis was like Gareth Bale
Always difficult to judge young players, you never know how they will develop. Can’t remember which ex-player it was (possibly McAllister) when interviewed said everyone at the club thought Stephen McPhail was going to be the best player produced by the academy, said he was the best passer of the ball, but he didn’t quite reach the heights.
Top teams recognise when someone isn’t going to be good enough pretty quickly, we seem to hold on too long for fear of a mistake. Shackleton was another like McPhail we all hoped he’d make the grade
He only used to come on to bicker with chesh. Without their old sparring partners to abuse, I don’t think the mundanity of Leeds banter cuts the mustard
Been a good season so probably not as much to bicker about. Guess we’ll be busier next year when we’re getting a battering every other week
