This is unfair? Immigration will continue to feed this unfairness. The Government is throwing increasing billions at illegal migrants, asylum-seekers and foreign nationals who will not work and contribute. And we the law-abiding, working, tax-paying, are paying for it.
The heat was building while we were there and I can’t imagine how uncomfortable it would be in high summer. 22 degrees was quite enough for me ! Sailed past Capri and Ischia but didn’t land on either island It was a lovely holiday and I’ve still got 3.5 days of a free bar before we’re back in Liverpool on Saturday

Since Jan 1 st 2024 over 50,000 have entered uk via boat [ 13,000 ] whilst tories in power for first 6 months of 2024. hard to believe the first year of 2 tier Granny Harmers .gov just over 5 weeks time! After a couple of stock market " crash's " my portfolio [my navigating it!! ] means I have gained 24.6% since Sept 2024.............
You have no problem at all with immigration. The numbers coming in are insane!!!!!! we have a housing crisis and we should be prioritising the people of this country for housing. my kids have zero chance of owning their own homes zero chance of getting social housing.
Absolutely Put US, those born and raised in the UK first for once, not literally everybody else !! There are British families with children who are solely relying on food banks for their survival, while fit and healthy but largely unskilled young men, lhop in a dinghy in France and then get preferential housing, handouts and medical and dental care when they get here Why ? Why do they take priority over our own people ?? It’s totally obscene
We may be agreeing. I take issue with the unprecedented levels of unsustainable immigration. The majority of whom, will not work, and the numbers of immigrants who come into the the UK who are low skilled. This immigration is costing the state and is a fiscal drain. In your earlier post you think the youth mobility scheme is a positive. There is scant detail how the scheme will operate let alone how the people this applies to will pay their way. The youth mobility scheme could be another drain on the states resources. My opinion is that our domestic needs should be serviced, we have people who are disadvantaged, and Government should be prioritising the needs of our populace first rather than incentivising yet more immigration.
I get your concerns but I personally benefitted from working in France, Germany and Spain at times throughout my career. Not only did it help me have broader horizons it made me who I am.
22c is pretty cool! On my visits to the Alps [ SLOVENIA to SE FRANCE, Briancon/Gap, Pharmacies that nearly always have a sign with thermometer, in AUGUST regularly showed 40 to 45 C, COLA lollies were quite cheap almost every village/ town I went through I bought 3 or 4, had a chill box [ -20c below ambient ] would buy a large bag of ice cube, or 2 if space in it, would last about 3 -4 hours then mix as a drink .. ice cold after buying more bags to replace, lollies would last about about 45 mins+ before getting mushy then into a bottle them not already eaten / consumed that is. over a 2 day period of driving would reckon on buying 8 bags of cubes and 40 cola lollies! EVEN AT 1500- 1800 METRES sleeping at night was "naked" with 2 ex computer fans on the spare batteries! moving the air about! my van had 3 thermometers 1 in cool box 1 in front of van & a curtain divider to rear part had 1 maximum temp recorded in front was 68c and back was 64c cool box was always above 12c although minimum was around 9c with ice pack additions [ kept travel diaries] not just memory .... those were the days 10kgs lighter after a month abroad and fit enough to walk 20k and over a vertical range 3000m [ includes up's and downs ] on walks that started around 800 to 1200 to a minimum of 2370m 7 walks total of the many! rucksack at start weighed about 18 kgs at end about 4kgs ......... consumed most of the difference!

We wrote to Rees Mogg and Dan Norris and their writen replies were identical......they both blamed the local planning authority. I think they were Lib Dem but I don't care which party approved these houses it's mental that we have 600 houses in construction. Politicians of all persuasion are equally inept, they have zero common sense.
the point is that irrespective of the planning authority they were part of the house building record declared by the then .gov [ TORY ] ... IT WILL BE SAME PRESENT .MOB! . when they actually start to get planning or indeed building any ............... already they have reduced 1.5million homes to 1.2million did so after about 5 or 6 month's ................. AR is so far behind that building 800.000 will be a miracle. ps local friend/ acquaintance who is in building trade says " snagging returns are much much higher than 3 years ago" work force is poorly trained / foreign and quality is skipped. Biggest snag job they have handled is 40 houses that had 2 mostly, some 3 occassionly upper floor joists missing meant they were up to 3-4" of floor support missing. Another was wrong size pipework, to small diameter. . . . . . . . . rattled off a list of other things they look for ...
That’s a great thing to be able to have done Raver. I was sent to Lisbon once for work, but it wasn’t for long enough to absorb the culture or language. Aside from that I’ve been all UK based - with short stays in Bournemouth, Brighton London and Northampton when working on certain projects being as varied as it got!! The wife’s job afforded us a lot of European travel though - she was a schoolteacher specialising in languages and that gave us access to cultural exchanges in France, Spain and Germany. When she changed to teach maths we managed to wangle some educational stays in Finland and Hungary. I’ve really valued the opportunity to experience ‘normal’ life in those countries - something that not many people have - and I feel very blessed.
I am unashamedly anti EU, not Europe, with every step of my independently free being, but I must admit in my younger days I spent time working and training in Germany, France and additionally Japan, I loved my time there, I also enjoyed working, playing and learning with other cultures and feel ,no I know it has been to my advantage and benefit in life. In reverse through my various roles in life I played host and trainer to staff from Uganda, Japan, China (Hong Kong) Malaysia and Ireland, I've enjoyed taking and giving, I think I have a fair balance of mind through my experiences, I would never, ever give away sovereignty in any form or shape to an unelected band of bureaucrats, cooperate on equal terms, absolutely, share evenly, bang on, be subservient never.
I’ve always been against political union, much preferring the old EEC - for free trade between independent member states. Most of our personal French, German and Spanish friends (French and German in particular) however feel that moving towards political union is essential to prevent a reoccurrence of the various wars that have blighted mainland Europe since the dawn of time. They’ve experienced their countries invaded, occupied or ripped apart by civil war and they believe that a unified bloc system will stop it happening again. I’ve never been a fan of that. Our own history and relationship with mainland Europe over time has seen us bear witness to several egotistical dictators which have brought war on their neighbours and we’ve ended up being sucked in to ‘sort it out’. Besides, it dilutes and blurs the wonderful cultural and social differences each of the member countries should be celebrating with pride. Having said all that, my own reason for believing we shouldn’t have left the EU, aside from my own personal wish to retire to Spain, is that they were our biggest trading partner and right in our doorstep. My unease at closer political ties and all the Brussels rules and red tape were not as big as my fear and terror at the possible economic damage we could do to ourselves by snubbing our most lucrative market. We also now have no internal voice within the ‘club’ - no influence whatsoever. The EU can play hardball with us. Whereas before we could call upon their cooperation over various challenges, now they don’t care - in fact they are pleased when we are struggling with issues like immigration. They (the French) cant wait to send those boats over to us. After all, they can charge us £millions to take them back - only for the boats to arrive in the UK once again. We have damaged our economy, weakened our influence in the world, immigration is worse than ever and the EU now treat us like a child, rather than an equal. The Brexit experiment has been an utter disaster. We will never know if it could have been negotiated more wisely for a better outcome, but I honestly can’t think of any benefit. Those unelected bureaucrats in Brussels now have more of a stranglehold on our affairs that they ever did when we were a member. They can now dictate to us over Northern Ireland and Gibraltar - our territories, whereas before they could not. I can’t see how that’s ’taking back control’.
I have been lucky enough to work in Holland, Poland, Sweden, India, the USA on and off for 8 months and France (Paris and Grenoble) for almost a year commuting every week from Bristol Airport I loved every second of everywhere I was lucky enough to see Work always came a distant second to meeting people, indulging in the culture, and of course having a bloody good drink everywhere along the way ! I wasn’t paid a fortune but the experiences and the people I met were worth far more than money
I was a print consultant for the UN based in Geneva during the 80s, and worked on various projects staying in Italy. Yes, I loved my time but my conscience had the better of me. Part of my brief was to advise 3rd world printers and offered work in India (accompanied by my family). I recognised a 'jolly', resigned, only for a Texan to take my place with his family. For me it's what I imagined that happens in 'large' organisations and rightly or wrongly I think the same about the overpaid Eurocrats in Brussels and worse governing me. I understand the 'remainer' view but it's just me, I live or die by my own endeavours and wont have others telling me what and how to live my life. It was the same with the 'funny hand shake gang' who I turned down 40years ago. No doubt R&W will tell me 'well what about the shower (blue and red) who rule us'. I don't have an answer other than I can have a vote every few years. And at least they're our idiots.

You can still work in the EU with a visa. The youth mobility scheme does appear to have a economic rationale. Boost to GDP? No. Loosen immigration policy and increase immigration? Yes.
