Position now deemed untenable. Announcement possibly today... BBC News - Gary Lineker expected to leave the BBC https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c626jxp0yz3o Over liking a rat?
Not saying I particularly like the guy but what is the world coming to. I mean imagine someone judging and sacking one of us for some of the comments on here that we have 'liked' Who on here knew a rat emoji was anti semitic? I certainly didn't until a few days ago.
Any responsible person should know what they are posting on social media means. Not that many on socail media are that sensible.
I never understood how he was thought of so fondly by the BBC to make him their highest paid presenter. I always thought him average, slightly smug and would be easily replaceable. Other than Match of the Day & Sports Personality of the Year, what else did he do to earn such a high wage? And when he promised to present Match of the Day in his underpants when Leicester won the league? Now I wasnt exactly hoping to catch a glimpse of his hammerhead or anything, but You said 'underpants!' Not SHORTS! And I think that anti-climatic event just sums up the sort of man he is!
Didn’t even know there was a rat emoji - until now - can’t figure in what sort of message you would want to use one.
I suppose it has been taken in the context of his previous entry into this minefield of a subject. He should have learned from that to steer clear of this controversial area, or risk making another mistake. I'm more than happy to accept that on Football, he is an expert with vast experience, and as such I will, at the very least, be interested in what he says. His high profile brings with it a high salary and a degree of responsibility, which means that his comments are examined and taken far more seriously than are those of us lesser mortals. But his views on recent history or current affairs are not something he seems to understand and in hindsight he seems to have realised that he has got into an area that he knows little about.
Can't say I'll miss him, but I find it funny (and worth thinking about) that he touched a third rail and that's why they got rid of him, not that a fair chunk of the general population didn't like him.
