Oh God don't let him attend Arsenal.

"So Will thanks for coming today, I hope you're looking forward to getting started"

    "You're having a ****ing laugh aren't you?"

That Mackem earlier said that he agreed terms with them and then ****ed off to Lens!

He reportedly did, yeah. Sunderland weren't prepared to back him by changing the coaching staff / letting him make his own hires and he also had concerns about the club's infrastructure, was the word at the time. While Sunderland were trying and failing to close the deal, Lens went for him and moved quickly

I think they’re doing it to wind you up
Maybe they’ll get it right at some point and we can all pretend we knew it was a genius move

    Or not

    I’m pretty happy with Still.
Who do those who are not, expect us to get?
We are a championship club, and I would rather look for a progressive younger manager who can hopefully take us forward.
RM had the chance, but his stubbornness and unwillingness to adapt in the premier league cost him and us as a club to progress, along with a poor transfer window.
Still has experience in the French league coming up against PSG, Marseille, Lyon etc on a regular basis where he adapted his philosophies.
He finished just behind the highly rated Rosenior at Strasbourg who spent a lot of money and had the multiple loan players from Chelsea to work with, whereas Still had to sell the spine of his team with no money to replace the best 4 players in his team.
He’s clearly an intelligent young coach who has been talked about reaching the top.
Looks like he wants to come to us and ready to do so now, which is more than Rohl, who is playing a dangerous waiting game, of maybe thinking his stock is higher than is may actually be.

I'll personally be delighted if he stuffs the naysayers words back down our throats because I desperately wish to see a new positive era for us. It's a gamble which none of us can predict right now.

Nah. Lincs is only happy when he has got something to moan about. We had a positive Lincs last season in the Championship and it just wasn't the same.<laugh>

Don’t know enough about him to be happy or annoyed.
Glad it appears to be done sooner rather than later though, albeit that’s the one positive about being so monumentally **** that you’ve already been relegated for months.

Yup, I would have preferred Cooper and/or Rohl but I am pretty fine with Still. I get the rationale, it fits with what Spors said and he isn't contradicting himself. I do understand the appeal of catching a younger coach on his way up than somebody he already has a few clubs and a few sackings to their name

It's a decisive move too, as clearly Danny was dicking around a bit, and if he wasn't fully committed, Spors has recognised the need to get cracking. It's good. I just hope it works out.

Jack Rosser's full report for The Sun: (sharing here to avoid anyone having to give a click to The Sun)

SOUTHAMPTON hope to appoint Will Still as their new manager this week.

Saints have held extensive talks with the 32-year-old, who is leaving French club Lens and wants to be closer to family in England.

Still has agreed terms on a contract, and the south coast side hope he will be confirmed in time to attend their final Premier League game of the season.

Saints, who were relegated in early April, host Arsenal on the final day of the season this weekend.

The club also held talks with Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.

Rohl had been the No1 choice for some time, but wants to take more time to make a decision over his future.

The German, a former assistant manager to Ralph Hasenhuttl at St. Mary's, has interest from his home country which could prove more attractive than a Championship job.

Saints were reluctant to be left waiting and moved quickly to land Still, who has also managed Reims in Ligue 1 as well as Lierse and Beerschot in Belgium.

Lens are not owed any compensation should Still leave, though the same cannot be said for his coaching staff, which include brothers Edward and Nicolas.

Talks over compensation for his coaching staff are ongoing and remain the only sticking point before the appointment can be confirmed.

Have a feeling we’ve finally lucked out here. Feel it could be a blessing that Rohl thought he was better than us?
