One player at a time, Jimmy Seed (with the backing of the Gliksten brothers and the CAFC board) was building a team that would rival the very best in England during the seasons before the Second World War. Even here in the 3rd Division that great team - our greatest of all time - was coming together.
Update: I neglected to include a match Charlton played in the 3rd Division (Southern Section) Cup competition on Thursday 13th September 1934, just one week after the death of goalkeeper Alex Wright. The scoreline suggests Charlton may have 'thrown' the game - or at least had no appetite at all to compete on the night. Hardly surprising, considering the shock of losing a team-mate in such tragic circumstances only days earlier.
