FT. 1-0. Poor first half, much improved second half. Nice to end our final home game of the season with a victory. Very scrappy and tense end to the game with both sets of players getting angry with each other. Not sure what that was all about? Considering I expected 0 points from Liverpool away and Newcastle at home, to get 4 points certainly surpassed my (low) expectations. We should be pretty safe for 2nd spot now I think. I know that didn't matter for some people, but it did for me because I wanted us to at least show some professional pride. We've definitely secured our spot in the Champions League for the 3rd season running, meaning our final game against Southampton away has no pressure on it. There's a lot of work to do ahead of next season, but at least we can be safe in the knowledge that we didn't get drawn back down into the top-5 scrap. And at least we didn't end the season with 0 wins from 4 against Newcastle. Silver linings etc...
Some interesting quotes from Arteta and Rice after the game. Rice: "Hopefully we sign some players in the summer because we are going to lose some.” Arteta: “Time to go to the beach. Enjoy a few days. And hope the guys upstairs do what they have to do.” Sounds to me like they're putting a lot of pressure on the club hierarchy to do their jobs and avoid having a Summer like we did last year. Let's hope Berta and co. can deliver. We really need to be on top of it all this Summer. Your window of opportunity in football doesn't last forever and it's only a matter of time before some of these players have their heads turned if we go another year empty handed.
