'It's been an honour' - Bristol City favourite issues message after end of Robins loan spell
George Earthy spent the season on loan at Bristol City, scoring three goals to help Liam Manning's side book their place in the play-offs

George Earthy has taken to social media to issue a message to Bristol City after the fan favourite midfielder's loan spell at Ashton Gate came to an end following the Robins' play-off defeat to Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old made the temporary move to BS3 from West Ham United last summer and had a slow start in red and white, starting just five of City's opening 35 Championship matches. However, Earthy's time in South Bristol truly sparked into life in February when he came off the bench to score twice as Liam Manning's side came from behind to beat play-off rivals Middlesbrough at Ashton Gate.

From that point on, the Hammers loanee didn't look back. Although he only scored once more, in the Reds' draw with QPR at Loftus Road, he started five of City's last seven league games and partnered Scott Twine in attacking midfield in the second leg of the play-off semi-final on Monday evening. After the full-time whistle at Bramall Lane, Earthy was one of the last to leave the pitch, having made his way over to the travelling supporters in a manner that looked like he was almost saying goodbye.

Now, the attacking midfielder has taken to Instagram to write a farewell message, saying: "Thank you to everyone at Bristol City - the manager, the players, the staff and the fans - for welcoming me into your club as one of your own.

"I couldn’t tell you how much I’ve loved my time here and have learnt so much about myself as a player and a person. The way our season ended still hurts, however, it was an experience I won’t ever forget. It’s been an honour to have represented this great club and to be a part of such a talented group of people.

"Will always be a fan of the club and hope our paths cross again soon. I wish everyone at the club nothing but the best for the future. All I care about…"

As well as a number of City supporters, the likes of Zak Vyner, Jason Knight, Max Bird and Anis Mehmeti were all quick to comment on Earthy's post, with the Albanian international simply stating: "My little bro," followed a by a heart emoji.

The initial intention of the 20-year-old's loan spell at Ashton Gate was to help him prepare to play Premier League football. While Manning has been open about his desire to work with the attacking midfielder again in the future, he has insisted that such discussions are yet to be held between the Reds and West Ham United.

Heading into next season, City do appear to have plenty of depth in attacking midfield, even if they opt to make no further additions. Twine, Bird, Mehmeti and Yu Hirakawa have all operated in that position at times this term, while Josh Stokes will also return to BS3 following the end of his loan spell with Cambridge United, where he impressed supporters and manager Neil Harris in League One.

He will be a very good player.
I’d love it if he came back next season.
