If you fancy some cheaper flying fun, then get yourself upto Pocklington Gliding club, get a couple of trial flights. Nothing like being in a glider getting winch-launched up to 1200 - 1400ft, the initial acceleration will surprise you - even faster than Chillo's moby! Great fun, and the clubhouse has a bar as well for when flying finishes.
Think he's trying to be 'on trend' and failing - looks like he's confusing 'snowballing' with 'snowboarding'
Went with @askewshair when he’d bought Mrs Askew a gliding afternoon there. Looked ****ing terrifying to me. Glider looked like a cheap bath held together by gaffer tape and prayers! Beer in the clubhouse was ok while we waited with my more sensible wife for his to land or crash. *she landed safely…somehow
There is a small airfield on mount airy at south cave. I'm sure they do flying lessons. Planes are always buzzing over us at brough. Edit. Just done a Google search and there is very little info about the place, so maybe don't bother lol
Just found a contact number for the person I know that is a flying instructor I’ve messaged him so if I get a response I’ll let you know @Idi Amin
What puts people off gliding the most is that BGA rules that you have to wear a parachute, but the parachute's main purpose is to give you something comfortable to sit on in the glider. I must admit gliders do look a bit flimsy, I did a few circuits in this :- please log in to view this image As you can see the seating isn't the best. please log in to view this image
Before you chuck many thousands at the job, make sure you can pass the medical requirements. Anyway, congratulations. You have spent some 10-12 thousand pounds and are now the proud holder of a PPL. Private Pilots Licence. You are now free to slip the surly bonds of earth, as the ode to flying goes. To maintain the validity/currency of your licence you must fly a minimum of 12 hours a year. And if you are over 50 another medical exam. Learning to fly costs the same as it always has. Every penny you've got. If you are serious about it, I would recommend learning at Humberside as opposed to a landing strip with flying club/lessons attached. From day one you will be in a professional, for want of a better description, enviroment, which staves off the wtf when you eventually encounter the same on your travels. But it will probably cost a lot more. OR, you could, as has been mentioned above, spend the same money on a Harley and treat yourself to an appreciating asset.
Yeah, I sort of get that. My sister treat herself to lessons and bought a Harley. For her 60th birthday. And made a shed load of money when she finally sold it. Appreciating asset, as opposed to burning expensive holes in the sky.
