Ah class mate. That is helpful. Will that avoid all the people trying to get north after the game or not ?
Id imagine heading back from St Pancras on the slower service will be a lot easier and less crowded than the LNER services from Kings X. Might take longer but you'll more likely have a seat to rest your weary legs after a long day.
My plan is to try and jump on an LNER into London tbf mate if one rocks up before the local services. At that point, if the guard is anything like the ones I work with they'll not even be arsed about checking for tickets amongst all the bedlam. And they should stop as well, as theirs always the chance people will want to get off. Unless the driver has been given a not to stop order from control. It's then down to the guard whether he lets people on or not but nothing a little sweet talking can't over come haha.
I've had mates use these people before and had a great time. In January my youngest son booked 2 rooms for 4 nights for the 7 of us at the Premier Inn @ Edgware (me, 3 sons and 3 grandchildren) with not knowing what day the game would be played. We have now decided to drive down on the Friday and off to Trafalgar Square (except for the aforementioned son who is going down on the 05.12 train from Darlington because it is his fiancé's 30th birthday on the Friday and they are going out for a meal so he will come straight up to the hotel when he gets to London l). We will then get an Uber(s) to Cannon Street tube station to Wembley for the game and then straight into the city for a celebration drink/bite to eat before heading back to the hotel and then back home on the Sunday. Ir is my 45th wedding anniversary on the Saturday so when I get back home I must remember to say happy 45th wedding anniversary to her To soften the blow I am taking her to York on the Tuesday - getting soft in my old age
We got a coach trip booked. Leave Friday and taken to hotel in Canary Wharf. Picked up Saturday taken to Wembley stadium and dropped back at hotel after the game. Head back home Sunday. Gonna try to get amongst fans on the Friday night, possibly Trafalgar Square as I’ve never had the opportunity to see the bedlam round the fountain the night before the match.
I’m in Canary Wharf as well - which hotel? On the subject of Trafalgar Square, what time does everyone start to gather there on the Friday?
You'll love it mate....from Covent Garden going round to Trafalgar Square,it's a special atmosphere....make sure you get there early mind! I'm messaging the Nags Head to remind them Sunderland are in town! They were caught on the hop a bit for the Wycombe match. They'll know to load up in the cellar and the bar-staff this time though!
From memory people start arriving early evening but more families, etc. As the light goes the atmosphere becomes more raucous with people arriving until it’s packed and crazy. I’ll be leaving earlier this year, before it gets too messy … … just hoping Sheff Utd don’t attempt a coup, you’d expect most will travel on the Saturday.
Getting in on the morning by train then staying overnight at a travelodge. Intending to find somewhere to hunker down until the trip to Wembley as I've herniated two discs in my spine so not the picture of mobility at the moment but I will be there at least.
Just cancelled 3 double rooms for next Friday at the Premier Inn Harrow if anyone is looking for hotels. Should be available soon I'd imagine!
With all the bars and lovely old pubs, around London, I can’t think of anything worse tbh … … you could literally be on the concourse of any ground.
