So, one of the teams currently sitting immediately above the relegation places is going to get a CL place next year. That's completely crazy imo, but I don't see a lot being said about it.
You know what would make the league more interesting? We give all three teams in the relegation zone 15bonus points. Just to make the end of season relegation fight interesting again... Sorry @Libby , can't give more than 15 or that would change the table order.
I've seen quite a bit of chatter about it . While seemingly bizarre due to particular circumstances this season the EL winners getting automatic entry into the following seasons CL has been around for years . They may need to reconsider it as the EL is much weakened by no longer having CL drop outs coming in however if they do that there is little incentive for bigger/wealthier teams to prioritise it so it's a bit catch 22 . Also shows the strength in depth of the PL as if seems likely Chelsea will win the conference leage
thats a different conversation to it being bizarre that a PL team just above the relegation zone is going to qualify by winning the EL
No disrespect to any clubs but here's the teams Chelsea faced en route to the final - Gent, Panathinaikos, Noah, 1.FC Heidenheim, Astana, Shamrock Rovers, Copenhagen, Legia Warsaw and Diurgardens IF. Burnley would have made short work of most, if not all, of them. The present European format will likely see PL teams in most of the finals. It's looking like a poorly disguised Super League.
It's becoming an issue with relegation too. The gap in quality between 17th and the promoted sides is just too large. Forest basically had to breach PSR and get enough points to factor in the punishment to stay up in their first season back.
True. I think if a newly promoted side can hang on for a season and acclimatise then they have a better chance of staying up. Forest bought about 25 new players didn't they and got a coach with good PL experience. I think this season they bought about 10 more players and a couple of loans (Ward-Prowse and Moreno), which has helped massively so it's been different for them. Not quite the miraculous rise up the league. Not all clubs have been able to do this.
Sheff U proved last year they couldn't and if anything they're squad isn't as good this time round. Alot more football league journeymen currently in their squad.
Leeds will do it. Imo they will go for broke and ignore psr. It'll take a lot of work though. Burnley will struggle to score and teams that do that will end up 18th or 19th. Sheffield utd 20th and dead last. No way they spend If Leeds stay up, who drops?
Probably Wolves. Going to lose Cunha, so who is going to score for them, unless they reinvest the money well, which they haven't for a while now. Other than that, West Ham? Can't seem to shake off the relegation threat despite their ambitions Everton, Palace? perhaps. But I see all 4 of them being better than Leeds.
It's hard to say as we wo t know what Leeds do. I suppose it would be better ask who finishes 17th? Wolves is probably a decent shout
If Wolves carry on their end of season form they will be fine but may find their manager and important players are targets this summer
