Step forward Fraizer (not effin' Frazier) Campbell. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
The owner is a clown who, despite being a football fan, is less qualified running a football club than the average poster on here is.
Saw this on Twitter Managers Ranked by Points Per Game (PPG): Liam Rosenior: 1.40 PPG Grant McCann: 1.38 PPG Nigel Adkins: 1.29 PPG Ruben Selles: 1.21 PPG Andy Dawson: 1.13 PPG Shota Arveladze: 1.10 PPG Tim Walter: 0.83 PPG
Sacking Rosenior will go down as one of the most idiotic decisions at this football club. On just championship seasons I think Grant would be below selles though and Rosenior is well clear of the rest. How about goals per game too? Reckon Rosenior would do well too despite claims.
Says who? Of course we can. And do. Me included. But I don't lazily place all the blame at his door (whilst still ackowleging that, yes, he is ultimately responsible) nor come out with daft statements that make out it's all his fault, that he identifies & makes our signings, etc etc.
Would they have stayed? Highly unlikely if we're being honest & realistic. A promotion that never seemed particularly likely? We were 6th i.e. in a promotion play off place, when those January signings were made. Play offs were more than realistic. Once there, anything can happen. We may well have been the team to fear had things worked out differently after January. We beat Southampton at theirs in one of our best performances. No one can seriously say that "promotion never seemed particularly likely". We (should have) had a fair chance.
It’s all Acun’s fault, it was he that sacked Rosenior and appointed Walter and then Selles. Nobody else is to blame for the position we are in.
It was an outside chance really, I remember the discussion at the time being very centred on that too. From memory the top few clubs had basically run away with it and there was a whole host of teams scrapping for the remaining 2 play off spots. Much like this season. Except last season it was a far stronger division. I know I definitely expressed concern about going **** or bust in January and called it would probably cost him his job if he failed. Although as I’ve said a few times I don’t think he was sacked for football reasons anyway and no matter what happened there’s a fair chance he’d have been let go.
Sorry but it doesn’t wash. I’ll give you that he doesn’t sanction signings but everything that’s led to where we are today stops with the ownership. Even take out the hyperbole about the potential levels of debt we do all know we were at an unsustainable level of spending to gamble on promotion in the toughest championship arguably in history and then sacked the manager for not succeeding with said gamble. He then thought in our biggest summer in terms of turnover of playing staff to hire an unknown manager with no track record of success and no experience in the league was a sensible idea. He then backed said manager only to change his mind after he saw the fan reaction after a game against Wednesday. He then naively said that the Selles appointment wasn’t about survival despite him coming in when we were rock bottom and couldn’t score a goal let alone win a point. The man to date has shown no signs of learning. Constantly bringing in playing staff that were his mates with varying levels of success but mostly were crap. Same with one manager as well. He doesn’t understand from my perspective that this league will not just roll over if you spend a **** tonne of money and you can get promoted especially if you’re not a parachute team that’s recently come up from league one. And yet we may be about to go through another bloody summer with a high turnover in playing staff and a new manager.
So, we were in 6th and improving. We strengthened further. We beat Southampton. Yet there was no chance of us ever going up. Ok, right Yes, it's all his fault, IF you want to simplistically think that all the problems we have relate to sacking of Rosenior and the appointment of Walter. Everything else important was fine? We faced a big rebuild also whether Rosenior stayed or went. He's made mistakes for sure, but also been badly advised and let down. No idea why Dublin has taken a bigger role and why he's brought in a new head of scouting / recruitment for example.
